Roberto Martinez discussion

We've only one home game in the league since we beat arsenal last season.

Wouldn't say we've played badly at home, just found it a strange stat

What about the other 10 goals in the first 4 matches you utter beaut

Players off form. Jags and Distin were poor for a few games. We're playing the exact same system as last season, the only difference being that players are cocking up. If Jags Distin, Howard and Stones had not made errors, we'd never have conceded as many as we have. Still, if you want to blame the system, then don't let facts get in the way.

Every team in the league gets the arse torn out of them a couple of times a season bar the top two. It just happens. It's not a problem indicative of Martinez ability with regards to defenders. Individual mistakes and defenders exposed by us having to force the issue conspire to leave is with no points this week. That's it. The system wins us more games than we will lose and we will still have a very good season.

Bunch of bad bells. Nothing wrong with the coaching. Its a simple case of senior pros having utter brainfarts and stupid errors which have cost us every single time.
Howard communicates for that first goal, no issue.
Howard [Poor language removed] catches the ball for the second, no issue.
Osman hears the 30,000 people screaming man on as he dallies with the ball outside the box inside of falling off the ball like icecream of a cone on a hot day, no issue.

The bottom line is he's the manager and it's up to him to address these issues.

For me we're far too open as a team, the back 4 just isn't getting the protection it needs. I also think the pre season was a disgrace and that has definitely contributed to the start.

Don't you think it's up to you to defend 13 goals conceded in 4 games, if you believe that those goals had nothing to do with the manager, not the other way round??

Even the individual lapses can be eradicated with proper input from management - Moyes benched Coleman for a couple of months when we conceded late to Reading away. Harsh, but you can't allow any bad mistakes to pass by without action being taken.

I don't know what or how he coaches them. You seem to think YOU do.

Pretty sure he doesn't even coach Howard. Martinez out.

Bell.

1 win in 5 games and 13 goals conceded in 5 games says otherwise.

I'm genuinely worried for us mate, simply for the fact that we look absolutely awful at the back unless a 20 year old is playing at CB for us, an injury or rotation to coleman or stones which sees the clown duo of jags and distin together looks likely to see us concede atleast 2 per match

They were mostly stupid individual mistakes too. Go watch back the games on the OS. First goal vs Leicester, Distin clears into a man, drops for striker goal.
2nd goal vs Leicester, deflection to their player, goal.
4 of the Chelsea goals came from individual mistakes, or poor refereeing decisions.
Give your head a whirl, and go back to playing on the swings mate.

Off form?? hahaha its more than that.

The formation is the same, the system is not. The players are not dropping into space when the ball is lost, every team we play is finding pockets in between the banks. Last year the work rate was through the roof and as soon as possession was lost the team retreted into its unit, players were pressurising the opposition and forcing them to loose the ball. This year we are backing off and allowing them to move the ball

My concern is it has been individual errors in EVERY game which has led to goals.

When does it stop being individual errors and something bigger?

To me we dont look a team at the moment.

Worrying.
The Senior pros need to sort their act out. Get their head in the game.

Like I said with 13 conceded in 5 the onus is, I think, on you to come up with answers beyond blaming 'individual errors' on the leakiness of the defence.

Exactly this. An error is an anomaly like Sunderland last year. This is currently the norm and it is alarming. You can have great attacking managers and great defensive ones. To balance the 2 is what makes a manager truely special. He inherited a brilliantly well drilled back unit. They currently look like amateurs. I hope he can find the right formula asap before we end up in a real scrap.
