Roberto Martinez discussion

They need more than a good game to persuade me they're still the answer.

IMO, overall we were told we have a sufficiently balanced and strong squad. I never believed it and I think that's being underlined right now. We can't compete on four fronts with this lot.

So you would have rested howard for this and jags, for chels then, as mistakes from those lost the games.

Dont be daft dave, today howard had his s'land game, ossie showed again he isnt a centre mid, simple as

There's something else going on because you can't explain the complete shift after the opening 20 mins...

Panic. Sheer panic.

Neither experienced players like Barry, Osman, Jags, or Distin can tell the team to keep their compossure.

Especially when your two centre halves are headless chickens.

Any side that plays 3 up front and puts pressure from the off will get maximum points from us.

Uniter and the RS will give us a kick in.

Last season he was ace great appointment but he did not prepare us in pre season.
Has he lost his hunger i dont know but this season on the whole we have been very slow and poor.
Other teams now know how to play us and there is no plan b.
He is a young manager learning the ropes but the way wigan went down worries me they just gave up.
He needs now to step up and make the strong decisions.

What I don't understand is why, if he felt the need to rest players because of our busy fixtures, why not wait until the league Cup game. Mirallas and Naismith are in the form of their Everton career, and he drops them. He has had a shocker today, and the worrying thing is, it is the same mistake he made versus Palace last season and he hasn't learned from it.

Palace last year was completely different lid

What pressure? Don't be acting like Palace had us under the cosh; all 3 goals could EASILY have been avoided.

Do you understand what I mean; and i wasn't talking about the palace game, i was talking in general.

The defence is not getting the support, i.e. the closing down, from the fron 4 and the 2 holding midfielders. There are holes everywhere and the opposition are finding them far to easily and putting unecessary pressure on the back line. You always defend from the fron, and we are not

Honestly IF Liverpool and Man U hammer us, especially with the gaping deficiencies they are both showing, then he should come under huge pressure to show he can succeed at a club of this size. He has brought many positives to the club, but you have to be able to defend. We have been leaking goal like a sieve for months now and it has to stop asap.

Not overly happy, obviously, but despite the scoreline, if you take away the individual errors, we were easily the better team.

We weren't easily the better team though were we? So many of our players gave the ball away so often, if we scored two at the end you couldn't say we deserved it because we were "easily the better team."

I agree. It was the team selection more than anything that was baffling. The formation caused further bafflement. Surely Lukaku would've been better on the right with Eto'o through the middle.

Gibson must have been a better bet than Osman, i've been a big supporter of Osman (and he did ok for the 1st goal) but Gibson is the better player.

Or played Naismith with Eto'o and bring Lukaku on against tired legs if we needed him.

Just hope our injured players are nearing their return.

Same as last season game. Martinez changed the winning team and see what we got. Crystal Palace love playing us at Goodison. We just give them three points every time.
