Roberto Martinez discussion

I think most people despair of them, tbh.

Play with a flourish and apparent abandon = stick to beat the manager with
Play with caution and attack for the last half hour of the game against a good team = stick to beat the manager with

Anything and everything is a stick to be used against RM. As I said: a parody.

I've said it before and I do mean it: I feel sorry for them. It must be terrible to support a football club and want them to do badly because you dont like a man in the dug out. It's the ultimate in cutting your nose off to spite your face.

I dont understand the attitude and I never will.

But Dave there is the reverse some folk do not understand your overwhelming support for him.

We agree that upfront it has been good, you rightly pointed the number of goals scored in the league 35 then now 36. In the 2.5 season it has been 145 in 96 games but the against figure 118.

But of the home games the team won 23 out of 49 and conceded 60 goals. It just goes to show statistics can be used but never actually give the complete picture so use sparingly. Like wise I think it is silly to compare to our ex, different players, different circs. What matters is the now.

But I'm not the mirror opposite of these creatures. That's a caricature. The manager got stick off me last season for taking that Euro Mickey Mouse trophy too seriously and buggering up our domestic programme; and he gets stick for not tightening up the defence these past few weeks. But I also see what he's trying to do overall and that the attacking side of our play has seldom been bettered for a decade or more.

There's balance in that which simply isn't there with those people.

I think every fan gives credit where it is due.
Our attacking play at times is exciting and he is good with bringing the younger players through.
He is also good in the transfer market.
He is poor in a lot of things as well.
You don't help yourself with how you blindly see no wrong in him it just discredits you.

his two biggest mistakes for me , was not getting a new keeper and another experienced centre back...but we dont know if the funds where there and also we were all panicking about not getting a no.10!

hindsight is wonderful...

A clown of a manager...

Who bought

Lukaku
Deulofeu
Barry
McCarthy
Funes Mori
Cleverley
Kone
Lennon

He isn't a clown but he has to wise up. I think he would have dropped Howard had Jagielka not got injured. There has been enough naivety in that defence without bringing another younger player in.

I have faith in him. You don't as is your right. I doubt you were calling him a clown when he brought in Rom or Geri though were you?
If I had the money I could go and get myself a top of the range helicopter. That doesn't mean I am going to get the best out of it even I new how to fly the thing

More balance to the team, attacking wise his refusal to drop McCarthy or barry would be fine if we had the fullbacks bombing forward like the 13/14 season, because he plays one winger it leaves us vulnerable down the left, he is basically reducing our threat down the left so the opposition can hit us down that side whilst defending our right hand side to basically leave us struggling to break teams down.

Having the right balance is key for me, having legs and power in the middle (besic maybe ? dropping barkley deeper with kone behind Romelu and two wingers a possibility ?) just showing that he has the guts and tactical acumen to mix it up would be good enough for me, id be much more inclined to lay off the gaffer if he was learning by his mistakes this way and not the current way - same team, bullet proof keeper etc etc.....

That's your formation, but what instructions would you give the players? If the opposition have the ball, they can attack. How are you going to stop them getting the ball, and then attacking? Are you going to try to keep possession or play long balls upfield?

And you don't have to play two wingers to have a sound defence! Our style has changed this season - we have had a much more conventional defence. We've had to play without Baines on the left wing, while Deulofeu has provided the main threat on the right wing. And McCarthy/Cleverley has been given a much more attacking role. I think you'll find that we've been playing the ball through central midfield much more this season.

We were shockingly poor in the first half. The Spurs fans must have felt like we did at half time against Norwich.
Credit to Martinez though, he obviously saw what was going wrong and we were the better team in the second half.
I can only watch our games on tv these days so appreciate I don't see the 'big picture' as you do at the ground, but I thought the defence stood up pretty well in the first half and all the players worked very hard to get forward against one of the best teams in the division this year. Second half I thought we were slightly the better of the 2 teams, good subs at the right times and could have won it late on. I've got the beers in for Wednesday night - can't wait! COYB!

The GK is the major mistake. Even now he can rectify it. He has Robles who he must know will offer a better line of protection. Not great, but better. Sticking with Howard is down to team politics, I feel sure about that.

As things have worked out we're doing very well creatively in the final third, so the playmaker we all believed was crucial hasn't turned out to be. Centre back isn't too bad either. We've just been unfortunate with a longish injury to one of them.

If Naismith is off and he wont buy a new GK, then we have to see that cash spent on another player who can offer us something on the left and also adapt to playing up front if anything happened to Lukaku. Tough ask, but he said he's been mulling transfer activity over.
