Roberto Martinez discussion

I'm not having a dig here but didn't Moyes break our transfer record 2/3 times? I'm Everton fan and want the best for the club,no matter who is the manager.

That really isn't a lot for a manager who had over ten seasons. Martinez virtually doubled the transfer record.

Fair point

Moyes can take no credit for Barkley. Practically killed the lads career

Martinez unleashing Barkley has been one of his highest achievements IMO

You think Moyes nearly killed Barkley's career? Has it not crossed your mind that Barkley was too young to buy a bevvy for the vast majority of Moyes career, and that Martinez has had the benefit of Barkley growing into a man? It's like saying Martinez is stunting Ledson's career, when he's only just become able to buy a bevvy.

Yet you think McCarthy and Barry as a combination is to negative?

Yes. Perhaps with a more creative central midfield we wouldn't have to see both full backs up, have centrebacks stepping into the middle of the park, have midfielders deserting the middle of the park to cover full backs.

A solid defence supporting a creative midfield that can attack and defend all behind a half decent striker force.

Currently we have defenders playing wider and higher than midfielders who are then filling in for defenders whilst our most creative presence in central midfield is often a cebtreback. Round pegs in round holes please.

People on here think it was the biggest outrage in world football that Moyes didn't play an inconsistent 17 year old fresh off a triple leg break in every single game in his favoured position over established top 6 midfielders like Fellaini Cahill Gibson Osman Pienaar etc.

Of course he ruined his career by visiting him at home when he broke his leg, waiting for his rehabilitation, giving him his prem and Europea debut and starting him at number 10 at the Emirates and WHL. 'Ah yeah but what about dat Sunderland game tho?' Baffling.

So to add more balance and security to a very attack minded team you'd like to add more creativity?

That's illogical gaffer.

Some people on here think if you're a young player you're an automatic starter and any manager who disagrees is neglecting the youth system...

Didn't Moyes start Barkley at Spurs and Arsenal when we were still in the hunt for 4th? You can't get a bigger vote of confidence than that.

Haha just said exactly that...

Barkley was immediately in RMs team and told to express himself and make mistakes to learn from. Better learning from mistakes on the pitch than dropping him for nearly a season for giving a pen away. Moyes did not manage him at all well.

He did learn from mistakes on the pitch, he went out on loan...

You know you can ruin a player by putting them in the team when they're not ready?

and Stones

Moyes gets a pass on Stones, as Moyes only had 5 months with him. I have a feeling that even he would have given Stones the opportunities he's enjoyed thus far

Barkley was ready during the 12/13 Season and Moyes showed zero inclination to give him a chance. After entering an excellent display away from home against Arsenal he dropped him to the bench and that was that

Martinez rebuilt Barkley's confidence and took the shackles off. The managerial credit for Barkley goes to Martinez, not Moyes

The fan base were calling for Ross to get a shot in 12/13. There was no excuse not to unleash him when Martinez did just that about 3 months later. If he was ready in August 2013, he was ready in April 2013

Playing footbll across the back line? You've said that before.

But that isn't how we have scored 36 goals in 20 League games.

Only Manchester City and Leicester City have scored more!

36 goals have come when we have been attacking teams with intent and pace, see geri to Romelu for example of how good we can be, then you have to look at the other end of the spectrum were the goalkeepers kicking is poor, the back line play about with it with no pace on the ball, howard - mori - baines - howard - stones - coleman - barry - McCarthy - baines - stones - forwards - lost - counter - goal conceded.

Quite literally a carbon copy every game, we are our worst enemy at times and as the manager Martinez takes the blame. Everyone saying give him until Christmas are looking for any tiny excuse for him now. I do believe if he gets past city in the league cup it may bring some more positivity but he has to sort it out at the back even it it goes against his philosophy.

All done through player sales. Moyes made his own cash. The money we gain from Naismith will have effectively been made by Moyes, as will the tens of millions we receive in the event of selling Stones.

That really isn't a lot for a manager who had over ten seasons. Martinez virtually doubled the transfer record.
But still broke our record however many times and saw fit to spend any incomings he received how he liked . I wasn't criticising Moyes just stating that he did spend money too, the Lescott money went on an assortment, Billy wasn't cheap either. Both has decent transfer dealings, both have not so good.
