Roberto Martinez discussion

To be fair mate, the whole exciting football thing is a little OTT. I find watching Everton can be hard work and dare I say it - boring. All great for the neutral seeing Everton concede and score most games but as a fan of the club its hard graft at times.

Hmm. I can understand some everton fans being frustrated, some will be excited, but every other fan would be excited watching us. The last 20 mins of the match last night was non-stop - there was barely a break in play.

I don't. I want Everton to play on the front foot especially at home in a manner that wins lots of games.

Defensive display without the ball? Sounds like what 'the entertainers' did v Spurs.

were you one of the ones that have been slating him to sort out the defence?

My backing for the guy is massively on the wane. Shame, because he's a likable cat with the long term future of the club in his interests. Like to see him in the Brad Pitt role in Moneyball. Direction the club is going is great, but his team selections are baffling. Kone, Howard, Alcaraz.

Not really that specifically, just to improve in general. It doesn't have to be Pulis' way or Martinez's way. I don't see why a top manager can't create a balanced side with an attacking emphasis. At the moment it's unbalanced.

Pretty much this for a balanced view. Good and bad in equal measure.... but with the squad he has available he is massively underachieving.

So its now about spending money ? The point is that Martinez needs to get results to show the players were going in the right direction, not languishing in mid table playing football across the back line until we cock it up and go 1-0 down chasing the game.

If you want us up there with the Arsenals, Man Citys etc then we would need to have similar finances. They can basically get a brand new team of class players from 1 - 11 within a couple of seasons and we can't. We have several good players but cannot be complimented with the remainder of players without a huge spend. He has improved the squad no doubt since he has been here and still looking to the future with young players being nurtured. Our good players are always there for the taking and Yes it does become a cycle but only because we are not a big club presently. Points on the board may come and may not come and you know Martinez will not sacrifice style over substance. He is attempting to get a mix and again he might of might not succeed. That is probably where the disagreements come from....some can see and accept what he is attempting and others want the quick temporary fix.

So has every other club therefore no change.

There is a change, because we are no longer the lowest spenders in the league, like we were on numerous occasions under Moyes. We now actually have a transfer budget, and are operating on a similar level to most clubs in the league, this was not the case under Moyes.

I'm not having a dig here but didn't Moyes break our transfer record 2/3 times? I'm Everton fan and want the best for the club,no matter who is the manager.

All done through player sales. Moyes made his own cash. The money we gain from Naismith will have effectively been made by Moyes, as will the tens of millions we receive in the event of selling Stones.

What about say the £50m+ we'd get for Barkley?

He's an academy product. It would be similar to when we sold Rooney. The credit goes to the club and the academy. I can't see him being sold any time soon though. I doubt anyone would meet the asking price, and I don't think he is looking for a move at all.

Playing footbll across the back line? You've said that before.

But that isn't how we have scored 36 goals in 20 League games.

Only Manchester City and Leicester City have scored more!
