Roberto Martinez discussion

The board have nothing to do with it, we CURRENTLY have a top 7 side so CURRENTLY we should be aiming to finish around that area. Yes in 5 years time if West ham, Palace, Watford blow £100 million on signings and we spend naff all I will agree 100% with you, but right now we have the better team so should be finishing above them, anything less is underachievement especially when it's in the bottom half.

Was old enough to see the great years under Howard which is why I don't accept underachievement, too many fans talk up a good game but accept mediocrity/accept something that they would have used as a stick to beat certain previous managers/captains with of previous years, It's hypocritical.

Why is 7th more important than a trophy?

I don't think anyone thinks It is (I would hope not anyway) but I don't accept that a cup win should make a bottom half finish acceptable any more than it would be if we don't win a pot. We have no Europa League to contend and a squad that in the managers words is big enough at present to compete.

It would be acceptable to most.

There is a difference between 11th and 17th though.

Beating Man Sheiky in the Cup then losing to a Stoke type a week later in the League is poor

For sure. Key word is "acceptable" though. I'm not claiming it's an outright success of a season either.

On record in saying this too, Deulofeu, Tarashaj, Lukaku e.t.c. all done interviews saying that the manager and his record for developing youth was a significant factor in coming to this club.

it's the only way we can properly compete with our finances.

You might need to tell him that, he's strutting around like he's the COCK of the walk.

Walking around like regular people. They don't see each other. They only see what they want to see. They don't know they're dead.
