Roberto Martinez discussion

Are we seriously this arrogant? Like we are entitled to always play well, entitled to have players that always play well, that never have a loss of form or confidence?

Sweet Jesus it's embarrassing.
At this level you cannot ship 3 a game for any consistent period of time and expect to survive

Don't think it's any of that.

I know that one of the things (of many) that has annoyed me tonight were Martinez' post match comments. He actually claimed, I'm assuming he did so with a straight face, that we played well tonight. Absolutely ridiculous comments.

We arrive here after three key events:

Slow out of the blocks after a piss poor preseason
Losing Barkley
Failing to strengthen that defence when everyone knew we are running on fumes there

We can't do anything about the first, but the other two will have to be rectified before Martinez can turn this.

I can't stand his attitude here tonight, but I still have 100% faith in Martinez. He'll get this sorted out, no question.

I wish I had your faith Dave but I view Martinez as an idealist who will not compromise any fanciful notion of footballing ideals in order to improve results

We are not clinical enough going forward and when our play/chances break down, teams pick us off on the counter. We've been figured out. All the goals we have conceded this season have been our own demise; play breaks down, loss of possession etc. We commit so many players forward that it's hard for us to recover shape and the midfield is bypassed. Now, the back four along with Howard have been atrocious that goes without saying, but we lack that certain something in front of Barry and Mccarthy and in my opinion it's Barkley. If he was in the team we would be alot more direct without having to commit the whole midfield in the other half. He's great at pressing high and winning the ball. We need to mix it up in the next few games, let teams have a bit more possession and press them in our half and counter when we're on the ball. We should be a lot more solid at the back with Coleman, Stones, Jagielka and Baines. Martinez needs to have a look within himself also. The rose tinted glasses are off for me and Saturday is a MUST WIN. Let's see what he and the team are made of.

Asked whether he would prefer an impressive performance and a defeat or to scrape a 1-0 win, Martínez was emphatic: "Play well and lose, 100%, because this game is about us being able to perform at Old Trafford and being able to show to ourselves that we can compete with teams away from home eye-to-eye.

"Sometimes the result in is the lap of the gods; it can be a bad decision from a referee or a piece of magic from a player. We need to have a substance to our performance so we can take ourselves to the next level. I want to play well, be the better side and win. But I would settle for playing well, being the better side and losing. It's about the long-term."

Not exactly going to plan this is it. I only hope he's slaughtered some of the players, and it's the senior ones as well.

We had far worse squads than this under Moyes finishing 7th. This get out clause of ah but it's osman and distins fault simply won't wash in the context of what has gone on before.

The confidence of the squad is hanging by a thread. We have two games coming up against opposition who will attack us at will. The side he put out was full of players on the fringes.

There are so many reasons for not publically lambasting them.

We cannot go into Saturday on the back of a public dressing down, Jesus it would be a cricket score.

He has to be positive. Pure and simple.

We've got too much quality in the side for us not to go on a run at some point this season.

Don't see us top 5 again, but we'll be solid top 7 by the end of the season

No chance whatsoever mate.

Mike Walker mkII is a fair assessment at this point.
Its beginning to look that way mate another media darling, I really hope we are wrong as I don't think Kenwright has the balls to do the dirty deed and we would have to be relegated before he would even contemplate it.
I don't dislike Martinez and I hope he can turn it round but we must not be blinded by his charisma its a results business and he must be judged by performances on the pitch.

Buy 4 new defenders and a keeper dave, won't make any difference. They're exposed far to easily, opposition players are allowed to pick up possession turn and face our goal, the fullback are getting no support from the wingers and are running free.

the entire possession thing as been sussed, close in and pressure our players forcing them to loose the ball and then have the freedom to run off.

barkley is a huge loss but his entire gameplan is now flawed; what were doing to teams last year is being done to us and the defence is taking the brunt. They're also making individual errors which is just making the situation worse.

we have a problem, it looks bleak, very bleak and for the first timein years iI'm worried by serious problems on the pitch

Yes, but that's what inspired us last season. He was always going to suffer a reaction in his second season. He made a massive error not getting at least two defenders in. But he's earned a period of downturn given the record number of points last season and the quality of football. We need to stick it out with him. There's no question he'll be leaving anyway.
