Roberto Martinez discussion

Barkley means the likes of McCarthy and Barry don't have to drive forward to support attacks because he sucks in a couple of defenders most times. Our defence is horribly exposed by our midfielders having to force the issue and are putting themselves under pressure with errors.

But the formation is the same, naismith is still sitting in the barkley position, why give them the freedom and not tell them to sit.

the opposition are also forcing the issue, they're not allowing us to sit on the ball and move it around

it was a crap game with not much in it until Distin did a Distin, how can Bobby legislate for Distin filling up his seasons quota of Distins before we are even ten games in.

Its all a big messy freakshow of bad luck and some bad form for me.

Carry on freaking out though.
Bad luck can cost you a one game, not three or four. It's no coincedence we're shipping goals like mad.

One game??? Seriously???

You can legislate 13 goals in 5 league matches on distin or individual errors, teams are having to much time on the ball and finding space far to easily.

a total transition from last year when we pressured and forced the opposition into mistakes before punishing them

Since snotting Arsenal we've been crap for the majority of games.

Thing is though, overall, we have never been quite as boss as some fans make out after a few wins. We are still more promise than anything. Still too inconsistent and depending on a lot of factors to get us right up there. So thats not changed much since the last boss. BUt its still early days.

The issue is that to an extent Martinez and Rogers were trailblazers last season. They played exciting football and got results.

Now lower teams are savvy to their style and have specificallly adapted their tactics to directly cope with us. We need to change things around, and we're really suffering without Barkley.

As someone said though this is a slump. We've been through worse - I'm all for a moan but some people are being ridiculous.

so you can never have a streak of bad luck?

im not saying it is all down to that, but its certainly a factor. The kinds of errors are just incredible at times. EVery club has a period like this I think.

Of course if it is like this all season its a different story.

My main point is stop freaking out you big blouses.

We'll be fine FFS.
As frustrating as tonight was, yes we will be fine. Sometimes things go awry.

We're having a bad spell, it was always coming. Howard Kendall started the '83 season with "Kendall Out" spray painted on his garage.

Patience lads.

(I'd love a garage)

I think Barry getting caught up the pitch trying to dictate play and unable to cover against the fast teams means we are left with gaping holes where the fullbacks should be, gaping holes where the DM should be and McCarthy desperately scrambling back trying to do what little he can.

Stop with the Gung Ho approach.

We commit too much, every team has hit us on the counter this season. Barry used to drop back, and McCarthy could just hold when attacking, and we'd still be secure, but this season that philosophy has just vanished, and Barry, not being the quickest can't get back anymore, every game is the same, except for WBA, the central midfield doesn't do enough, and well, as much as I like Naismith, he's a try hard lad, but he's a Striker, so he can't recreate the job that Barkley would, and it's exposing us every game.

Tonights a write off, i wouldn't even worry about that.

It'll come good, but the Martinez bandwagon does needs a reality check, scoring goals, GREAT, conceding 17 goals in 7 matches, well that's shambolic.

but i can point to that.

you are right that there is more space, but the majority of the goals have come from stupid moments. Then games get lost, confidence drops and it snowballs.

you want to jump up and down and cry that its a pointer to some bigger picture and possible disaster, but you can no more point to tactics and fault of the manager with certainty than I can say my point above is a fact.

Bottom line for any reasonable fan should be don't run around like a little girl shouting OMGOMGOMG when your team has a bad patch of form.

the goals conceded stat is horrible reading for sure, but I will give some credit and show some patience for the manager and bunch of players that entertained us last season.

I really hope so.

something didn't look right against Leicester, I got a glimmer of hope against when clearly our legs just gave way. But since then every game as been a struggle whereby every time the opposition breaks I have a feeling they'll score.

he needs 3 clean sheets in his next 3 games, even if it means shutting up shop just to get that confidence restored in the defence, build on that rather than trying to outscore the opponent

yeah...I think Barry has taken more attacking responsibility on in the absence of Ross. He personally has actually performed well, but maybe he is in a new kind of role and it is having a knock on affect.

I'm sticking withBobby but fans have the right ti question some his decisions especially the team selections tactics and
substitutions of the last two games .Some of them are really baffling and it is very hard to understand them.
He really needs to have a long hard look at who he is going to use on Saturday, players like Naismith and others like him
who will battle and scrap for every ball, unfortunately we do not have an awful lot of them.
My money is still going on the Blues but they have to fight , fight and fight some more and don't give an inch to them
At any time during the game . have a go and keep having a go,fight until you drop then pick yourself up and fight some
more.
