Roberto Martinez discussion

Playing Chelsea is a free for all this year, they're not in the top team bracket.

Martinez has done nothing to change our record against the big teams anyway, and tbh nor would I expect him to. Better teams in winning games shocker. It was mad that it was ever used to chastise Moyes anyway.

Yeah, but they're a bit different under hiddink, unbeaten and their world class striker is performing now. Still, agree. there's 16 teams and 32 other games, you could win them all and it doesn't matter about those 8 - it can be used as an indicator of how strong a team's mentality is though.

If the officials had done their job properly would you be complaining about giving up a 2 goal lead? Would you balls

Personally, I wouldn't have been "complaining" about it, but I would have acknowledged it as a weakness.

Lets turn it round. If we hadn't conceded those two goals and we'd won 2 or 3-1 after Terry's offside goal, would we be fuming anywhere near as much ?

Of course we wouldn't.

Tragic lack of patience. I want us to be a top team, of course I do. I know how Martinez want to achieve that and I'm supporting his plan - Everton will be a team based on a young players and play a specific style of football. That's unique combination and take years to perfect it, especialy with such a young manager. Players will come and go, manager and his system will stay for years. And that's the recipe for a success.

What's yours then mate? Change manager every year after we didn't get Europe? That's ambitious and stupid.

swansea went from a one-man 4th division team, to an established premier league team and one of the best to watch in the country. That started a good few years back and he couldn't bring in the calibre and mass of youth players he can here. I trust what he's trying to do, teams like stoke and west ham may be above us for the time being, but that won't always be the case. Even if he goes know he's setting us up with a brilliant platform. Yes, some managers would come in now and have us finishing 6th this season with this quality squad, but they could also neglect our youth set up and leave us in a bad state in 7 or 8 years, or not hold martinez' stance on stones and sell him for a quick buck well below value.

I don't know whether it's mentally or tactically (probably a combination of both) but we've got a brilliant case for actually being the worst in that department in the league.

2015/16: 32 goals conceded in 22 league games (7th most goals conceded - 1.46/game)
2014/15: 50 goals conceded in 38 league games (11th most goals conceded - 1.32/game)
2013/14: 39 goals conceded in 38 league games (18th most goals conceded - 1.03/game)

Compared to Moyes years:

2012/13: 40 goals conceded in 38 league games (17th most goals conceded - 1.05/game)
2011/12: 40 goals conceded in 38 league games (18th most goals conceded - 1.05/game)
2010/11: 45 goals conceded in 38 league games (14th most goals conceded - 1.18/game)

Yes, we are going backwards as regards to our defending.

I would have expected that to happen though, wouldnt you?

Moyes set us up not to lose and was very risk averse most of the time. Martinez is taking us on another path where we play to win every game. Which I love, after being bored of the majority of what our last boss served up.

Plus the stats you show here dont really make your point seem so damning. One season he betters Moyes, the next in what was a truly awful season he still only concedes 10 more than two of those of Moyes you list, and only 5 more than one.

This season...lets see. Next season I reckon we will be flying high on confidence with a trophy in the cabinet and an actual goalkeeper in the nets :p

The Vital Facts

The Positives

We are the joint second highest scorers in the Premier League. Only Man City have scored more goals than us.

We have lost five matches this season. Only three teams have lost fewer games, Leicester, Arsenal and Spurs.

We have drawn eleven matches this season. That is the most of any team this year. Spurs are the closest to us with nine draws.

We have lost just once away from home. Tottenham and Leicester have also lost just once away from home this season.

The Negatives

We have won six games this season. Only four sides have won fewer games, Aston Villa, Sunderland, Swansea and Newcastle.

We have conceded 32 goals this season. Only six teams have conceded more goals than us.

We have won three matches at home this season. Only Villa have won fewer home matches. Sunderland, Swansea, Newcastle and Bournemouth have also won three (I think this is the big reason why some are questioning Roberto)

We have conceded 20 goals at home this season. That is more than any other side in the Premier League.

It's mad that Moyes set up not to lose games yet found himself winning a hell of a lot more than Martinez does. Have you not seen this season? This team looks incapable of winning football matches against decent sides.

jesus christ, we've only got the 7th worst defence in the league - i was expecting a lot worse.

Chelsea's defence is dreadful. They need someone like Stones to help out.

It's the trend that worries me, we are supposed to be progressing yet these stats show we are clearly going the other direction.

Okay I've had enough to off this Martinez out crap after today game... Wake up, we just went to SB home of the champions were we lost every single time for the last 13 years(probably) and attually never looked like winning in all that time. We were robbed by added time and an offside. At the start of the season you all looked and went Etihad/SB be lucky to get 1 point off them let alone 2.

We all know that until Howard goes this team isn't going to climb the league, his fault for the 1st goal and he should have saved the 3rd.

We won't finish bottom half. Martinez will not be sacked

West Ham lost to Newcastle, we beat Newcastle, Palace got thumbed at City, we drew, we're going in the right direct we just don't have the luck at the moment.

Honestly you think the way fans are going on that we've been a top 4 team for the past 10 years

Finally stop with the Stones and Lukaku have gone, it's doing my head in. There still a lot of football to be played.

A question to those how believe in the manager, would him failing to win a trophy this year convince you he's not the man for the job? (going off our league form).

I have noticed the biggest support for him behind the attacking play is that he has us in the semi final (similiar to how our performances in the Europa League was used to back him whilst we were poor in the league last season).

What I will say is that if he gets past city I firmly believe his 2 choices of opponents could either win him or completely lose him the fanbase, a loss against the kopites in a cup final or our new plucky Shaqiri stealing rivals Stoke would cause untold amounts of fume from the fanbase, likewise I win over either (especially the kopites) would win over most I would imagine.

It would be fantastic if we win a cup now as I think it might help fasttrack the whole process, and obviously would just be boss, but I personally dont need it for me to keep patience with the manager and wait and see because I think really good things are coming with whats being done at club.

I think its only really Dave saying league doesnt matter and that its all about the cups.
