Roberto Martinez discussion

Yesterday was different than the Bournmouth, Stoke, Palace debacles. A huge deflection for one & although they should have won 1 of the headers they would have worked on holding a line like the did for the 3rd and they did it to perfection. If the referee blows his whistle there's claps all around and shouts of great defending as they all pat each other on the back, it's just 1 of those things. I don't blame Howard for the first either, I reckon it's shocking by Jags and if anything I thought it showed has changed slightly and took a bit of stick as he would never normally come for that but he did do which I'd much rather see to be honest. Just take the ball next time but it was aggressive keeping and he'd have been leathered if he'd stayed on his line.

I think this team's going to click any moment now. Like last winter when Leicester went from the relegation zone to league winning form overnight or Chelsea did the opposite, it can and will turn that quick.

I may be setting myself up for a big fall here, particularly as we haven't really strung wins together all year, but I can see us winning 7 or 8 of the next 10 in the league and do see us still finishing top 6.

Don't beat Swansea at home and the excuses will have to stop, we simply need to turn performances into wins.

mate, we've been kidding ourselves with these false deadlines ( oct, xmas '14, after the window...the 1st ten hard games, the 2nd 10 'easier games', xmas '15, etc. etc. etc. ) since the 3-6 Vs Chelsea in Aug 2014 and some still want to make more excuses and deadlines.

Roberto has stated in general terms and in various specific terms about not changing...anything. set pieces, corners, both defending and attacking, seeing out games. whatever.

But
He
Won't
Change...he thinks - no KNOWS, he is right, if it's not working then he might admit to it ( in private, to himself ) but it'll only be because, he and the team have not fully applied the philosophy and the cure will ALWAYS BE add more philosophy, not tune or tweak it, alloy this pure gold with a bit of copper and silver to make it more durable and less likely to lose it's shape.

neither will the way we play, nor, baring the odd times when everything aligns or it's a very poor team, will the results.

but baring a buy out or a relegation meltdown we all know he won't go anywhere
and a cup win, which we will all rejoice in, will result in a contract extension

so you'd better get used to it, this is it for the next 3,4,5,6. years...and still the deadlines and extensions ( lets get the post euro dip out of our system, see how Stoneses Lukaku, Del...A.N. Other's replacement shapes up, then it'll be the world cup hangover.

reply and or disagree if you like...and you will, but this is what I think, so don't expect me to counter your counter. we are all in our own camps and are not moving.

when it's all over, some will be right and some will have egg on their faces...it may even be me. Who knows.

That's what I find strange, Moyes was given plenty of time, but some lads think Martinez shouldn't.

I think my caution comes from the direction Martinez is taking us in. If by the end of this season we don't look to be moving forwards then I think we're entitled to look at his position. Two years as a football manager is plenty of time to address issues.

I've said myself he gets the rest of this season, and for me the first couple of months next season, if results don't change, then I'll be questioning whether he deserves anymore time.

Thing is though, I reckon he is building something good (and it does take time) and I think we have exciting times ahead.

Moyes's finished 17th with 39 points after being here for over 2 years.

He also had a world class talent like Rooney to use that season.

The problem is teams in mid table tend to drop off towards the end of the season.

Also 1 win in 9 games doesn't suggest a big turnaround is imminent.

It's the way we're playing and IMO the job Roberto is doing, quite clearly good times are coming.

I also get the impression we may even see Delefeou, Barkley and Mirallas behind Lukaku very soon.

We really aren't too far away from having a ridiculously good side, we boss most sides and score for fun, a few defensive tweaks mainly the keeper and we'll go far
Agree with we are very close, tho we need big defensive tweeks. If RM doesnt fancy JR in goal then he must, must get a new keeper in now. Howard is a pretty good shot stopper, but overall he is shocking. And really winds me up tht he doesnt acknowledge the everton fans. He did it again yesterday. we clap and he ignores.

Personally, I wouldn't have been "complaining" about it, but I would have acknowledged it as a weakness.

Lets turn it round. If we hadn't conceded those two goals and we'd won 2 or 3-1 after Terry's offside goal, would we be fuming anywhere near as much ?

Of course we wouldn't.

The difference being we (well, some of us) could have a healthy debate about what needs to be changed in our team, who was at fault etc. But now the overriding emotion and issue with the game is something that was completely out of our hands. We held our defensive shape and played them offside perfectly and yet we were unfairly punished.

The Vital Facts

The Positives

We are the joint second highest scorers in the Premier League. Only Man City have scored more goals than us.

We have lost five matches this season. Only three teams have lost fewer games, Leicester, Arsenal and Spurs.

We have drawn eleven matches this season. That is the most of any team this year. Spurs are the closest to us with nine draws.

We have lost just once away from home. Tottenham and Leicester have also lost just once away from home this season.

The Negatives

We have won six games this season. Only four sides have won fewer games, Aston Villa, Sunderland, Swansea and Newcastle.

We have conceded 32 goals this season. Only six teams have conceded more goals than us.

We have won three matches at home this season. Only Villa have won fewer home matches. Sunderland, Swansea, Newcastle and Bournemouth have also won three (I think this is the big reason why some are questioning Roberto)

We have conceded 20 goals at home this season. That is more than any other side in the Premier League.

with three points for a win, not losing isn't as good as it used to be...most of the rest is just using stats like a drunk uses a lamppost, more for support than illumination.

That's the problem, he's close to a side that can do good things. Just needs couple of small changes, but those changes are so blatant it raises questions on judgement.
It means the opposite to me: 'he's so close to a side that can do good things' means his judgement is spot on for the most part. Does he need a kick in the bollocks over Howard? Definitely. But the feller has retooled this Everton squad and has us playing some great stuff.

Noticed that when I have been to Goodison this season, 99% of the opposition goalkeeper acknowledge the applause but Howard just does nothing whatsoever. Is it really wrong to hate your team goalkeeper as I am starting to feel that way towards him.

Bloody hell almighty. I understand people are frustrated but fuming at the manager right now is mad. By the laws of the game we won yesterday. 4 points from stamford bridge and the etihad in one week.

Linesman terrible call is totally out of the manager's hands. What do you want him to do about it? And I don't want to hear that we should have killed the game off at 2-0. As if winning by a two goal margin at stamford bridge is the minimum requirement to be an everton manager - a one goal margin is just not good enough NSNO lad
