Roberto Martinez discussion

Cue someone bringing up Martinez had more money to spend than Moyes.

Moyes spent £9million in his first window without any money coming in so he did have a fair bit to spend.

Moyes was great for us in the transfer market but Martinez has a different approach. He sells players high and backs his judgement by reinvesting it all in big players. He fills his squad out with loans and frees.

Moyes could of done the same with the Lescott money but chose to share it out and bar Distin, it was a complete waste.

I am trying to see the positives. Last night I pointed out to my Utd supporting mate, that it was a positive that we were scoring so many goals, that not many teams could score the amount of goals that we do.

His response was that Utd could score more goals but if they did they would end up conceding loads as well. There is some merit in this because they went for it at Newcastle and drew 3-3, went for it at Wolfsburg and lost 3-2.

Over the course season we have outscored everyone bar city. But the lowest scoring sides are capable of putting a few past us. So in some respects, I am not sure how impressive our attacking play is. I am sure others could score more but they don't have the defensive solidity to be so gung ho.

We had a similar problem at the start of last season, we were free scoring but free conceding, Arsenal at home being a good example. Martinez then tried to make us more defensively solid but it severely damaged us going forward. The attacking play last year was slow and predictable , actually some of the most turgid rubbish I have seen.

This season he has taken the shackles off and we are going for it again. But we still have exactly the same problem as we had in August 2014, when we lost 6-3 at home to Chelsea and drew 2-2 at home to Arsenal.

He sells players high?

Which players?

Oh thats right, the players Moyes brought in.

lollollollollollol

I want him to take the chances when they are presented.

Moyes did it. Once.

Martinez has had/is having more chances in 3 season than Moyes did in 10. Two opportunities for top 4, one for a Cup final, quarter final in Europe.

If he doesn't take one...he'll lose players and will take another step back.

We're not in the top 10 with the top goal scorer in the prem. Also have 2 players in the top 5 assists in the prem.
Didn't take a chance by running up 72 points...which most seasons would get you just about over the line. 72 points is running on fumes for this club mate. The Moyes CL spot year was a freak with such a low points total of 61 for 4th. We are not geared up for a CL tilt. We need mid-70 points totals. If you want that then get a new owner, let them fund the squad properly, and then if it doesn't work out blame your manager.

The cups: well let's see what happens shall we.

BTW, I dont think you fully answered the question, tbh. Where do you stand on this manager? Is this someone you want out in the near future or not?

Agree with we are very close, tho we need big defensive tweeks. If RM doesnt fancy JR in goal then he must, must get a new keeper in now. Howard is a pretty good shot stopper, but overall he is shocking. And really winds me up tht he doesnt acknowledge the everton fans. He did it again yesterday. we clap and he ignores.

Bobby's not here for the short term, he's building for years to come. Why waste money now on a GK (like Marshall for 6 or 7 million) who he doesn't really want as his number 1 target is not available until the summer.

We're not winning any leagues this season, 4th also looks very difficult although still not impossible, it's important we build for the long term IMO.

I think we'll look to sell Stones in the summer and I think we could then see players of the calibre of Yarmalenko, Butland etc come in but if we sign a stop gap keeper now we're stuck with him.

Over to me what?

You are SO oddly selective that it's blinding.

You're completely ignoring the fact he's making the same mistakes now as he has previously; that he's learned little from it.

I'm not suggesting we hang him David, and nor is it 'KNEE-JERK', it's there in the figures mate...I'm merely stating that if he adapts and it's tweaked and applied and worked on then the whole thing is REALLY not that far away.

Yet if he doesn't it's utterly, utterly meaningless and himself/players/us have missed a golden & beautiful opportunity.

Or moment. Whatever...
Over to you in terms of you wanting to cram ALL of Martinez's pre-Everrton career stats into your number crunching machine. Well there they are supplied for you.

You now have the Swansea figures to go with your Everton and Wigan figures, so whats the scores on the doors with all that then?

Yep thank god old Moysey was there spending 4 million over his release clause on him. We'd have been lucky to get our 15 mill back for him off anyone else.

Imagine being in charge of United, the league champions, and signing Fellaini from us as your big signing, no wonder he got ran out of town.

Moyes's finished 17th with 39 points after being here for over 2 years.

He also had a world class talent like Rooney to use that season.
And was roundly and correctly hammered.

Please tell me you're not suggesting we all rejoiced at that achievement at the time and poor old Martinez is getting unfair and inconsistent treatment from the fans.

you seem to have missed the rest of his post Dave. It was more than one sentence long.

not like you

Did you see that ginger weapon on MOTD last night?

The laughing stock of British football giving his thoughts on Everton now.

It was like watching a chimp looking under the bonnet of a Lamborghini prodding at the engine with a spanner.

TV gold moment that.

I dont understand why you feel the need to mention Moyes, he left 3 years ago.

Its not Moyes fault we are currently looking at 2 bottom half finishes in 2 years, something that last happened in 2002, which for the record, was before Moyes.
