Roberto Martinez discussion

Ha Ha Ha. And....?

Someone else wanted O'Neill here and I told them he wouldn't leave Celtic...and that's the smoking gun?

Oh dear.

Leave the vaulting alone mate. You have no aptitude for it.
That was about Lennon

Everton couldn't get Lennon unless he's on a pittance at Celtic

Neil Lennon leaves Celtic for a crack at Bolton.

Just shows what you think of the club and why you're currently satisfied

I think he's on his last straw.

He has all the tools to deliver promise. His transfers are pretty much excellent. His style is great on the eye. He's positive and develops youth.

BUT...unless he makes good on the opportunities presented, changes his game management, and stops being naive he'll create a club that isn't a top 4 club or challenges for trophies...he'll create Southampton mark 2.
I'm sorry mate, I'm not being funny, but again you didn't answer that question. Do you want this feller around next season or would you want to punt?

You make more of a case there that he's doing good things, but then make some ambivalent statement regarding him being on a final straw. What is it? You want him here or you want him gone?

Lennon/O'Neill...same difference: you provided zero evidence of me wanting either as our manager.

Give it a rest mate. It's not happening for you.

Nope you argued with Brennan who said he wouldn't have O'Neil and although you didn't want Lennon you said we could only attract him anyhow if he was on a pittance at Celtic.

Crazy talk.

No expectation. Easily satisfied.

18 wins in 60....104 points dropped out of 180

And you're satisfied

LOL

Are those stats for Martinez at Everton correct?

I'll judge at the end of the season.

We achieve zero at the end of the season, then I'll be more in the "out" camp.

Maybe not a myth but it's certainly not an excuse for me, especially when the youth in question consists of the leagues top goalscorer, the best young English midfielder and Deloufou who has the 3rd/4th most assists in the league.

The difference between the two sides essentially is the goalkeeper and the defensive organisation of either side, which coincidentally are the 2 biggest issues I have with Martinez. Even if he inherently cant fix his defence he could atleast drop Howard, something which his blind loyalty/stubborness isn't allowing him to do.

See but you disprove your theory straight away by listing Ross and Deulo there, as they are very inconsistent in some parts of their game. Deulos youth causes him to lose that ball at the end instead of hanging onto it.

We would have bossed that game from start to finish if Ross's passing was up to the standard of the rest of his game yesterday.

They are young and inconsistent and will make mistakes.

Over to you in terms of you wanting to cram ALL of Martinez's pre-Everrton career stats into your number crunching machine. Well there they are supplied for you.

You now have the Swansea figures to go with your Everton and Wigan figures, so whats the scores on the doors with all that then?

Dave...he can't/won't/is unable for the most to set teams up to defend nor kill games.

It's that simple really.

Haha

I clearly said you didn't want Lennon, I said that you said we couldn't attract him unless he was on a pittance anyway.

Utterly pathetic from you.

What's the use of comparing Moyes with Martinez? Completely different circumstances in where they had to work in. What's the point in slagging of Moyes in order to defend Martinez or vice versa?

Moyes steadied the very unstable ship that Everton was back then an build a great foundation for any new incoming manager to work with. This especially seeing the board he had to work with and the serious lack of investment.

Problem with Moyes was that he's not a manager with refreshing ideas and imho had taken Everton as far as he possible could. Moyes was never the manager that would take Everton breaking through that glass ceiling and tbh I believe he was quite happy with the way the media perceived Everton. 'Plucky little Everton punching above their weight'.

Martinez on the other hand is a much more positive manager with refreshing ideas and an eye for uncovering tremendous young talent. The squad we have now looks so impressive. We compare favourably with almost every other PL team. The style of football he has introduced is so pleasing on the eye, yet often so much cause for frustration at the final whistle.

As I give him credit for all the breathtaking attacking play we often produce, I also hold him accountable for the alarming rate at which we ship goals. The way he keeps having faith in Howard also annoys me no ends.

I really like Martinez and desperately want him to come good for us. As long as he doesn't sort out the defence and goalkeeper situation he keeps digging a hole for himself though. Such a shame as I'm 100% convinced we're on the brink of breaking through that 'glass ceiling' and in all honesty, we probably already should have.
You can clearly read my thoughts & the express them better than me excellent post 100% agree.

Take that GK out and and replace him even with Robles (who is decent but not top drawer) and we'd be 4th/5th right now.

There's no question Martinez has made a major blunder with Howard. At the same time though, and as you imply, the fundamentals are there for us to progress at a rapid pace. It makes no sense whatsoever to even place a question mark over the manager's head...the man responsible for the technical leap forward.
I really don't want to put a question mark over the manager's head. As said I love the style of football we play and most of the time for 80-90% of every game I'm enjoying watching Everton like I've probably never have done before.

Although I became an Everton fan in the mid 80's there wasn't as much media coverage over here as it's the case now. That's why it's so incredebly frustrating that those great afternoons/nights of watching Everton so often end up in frustration and dissapointment. Especially as it is do damned unnecesary.

Every great team is build from the back and the foundation is already there. All our defenders would individually walk into almost every other PL team, yet they still give away goals at every given opportunity. Howard imo is the single biggest reason for that. Our defence just looks uneasy whenever he is playing. As long as Martinez persists with him I can't see us improving on our defensive record.

A question to those how believe in the manager, would him failing to win a trophy this year convince you he's not the man for the job? (going off our league form).

I have noticed the biggest support for him behind the attacking play is that he has us in the semi final (similiar to how our performances in the Europa League was used to back him whilst we were poor in the league last season).

What I will say is that if he gets past city I firmly believe his 2 choices of opponents could either win him or completely lose him the fanbase, a loss against the kopites in a cup final or our new plucky Shaqiri stealing rivals Stoke would cause untold amounts of fume from the fanbase, likewise I win over either (especially the kopites) would win over most I would imagine.

My concern is that he has a FANTASTIC squad of footballers at the moment. And we're in the league position we are.

Ross for me has looked the best midfielder on the pitch in both chelsea and city games. Spurs have just the same problem with the likes of alli and Dier but again Lloris and their solid defence bail them out, which allows Kane to score the goals to get the 3 points.

Our young lads make mistakes and it leads to a pee poor keeper conceding not helped by a defense that is powder puff and at times very open. This leads to Lukaku's goal often only being enough to get 1 point.

For me his first season he was as good as we are now attacking but the defence still had the organisation that was left from moyes and we had a perfect blend as it were, 2 seasons on the attack is still there but it's clear the defence isn't.
