Roberto Martinez discussion

We scored 3 goals within the rules of the sport.
Chelsea scored 2.
And his/our game management is being questioned?
We were playing Chelsea ffs, at Stamford Bridge.
Which one of you lovely lads/lasses wouldn't have taken 2-3 in a heart beat before the game?

I think every single one of us would have taken 3-2 before a ball was kicked mate.

Unfortunately it finished 3-3 though and so fans are going to question certain things and not just the officials role in the game.

I just think there have been occasions where naive game management has been an issue. Bournemouth being the prime example.

Going to Chelsea and scoring more legitimate goals than the opposition should be the primary aim with the hope that the officials can...well...officiate sufficiently.

If we want to discuss game management then the subject of such debate should be the officials imo. I just can't see how this game is one to use as a stick to beat the manager with.

I get that people are annoyed. I am too. But I thought we were terrific on Saturday, I really do.

Saturday was considerably different to th
debacles such as Bournmouth and home to Stoke and Palace.

I think issues have been addressed as shown by the recent performances and Chelsea was similar to them
IMO, 1 poor piece of defending from Jags and Howard apart, there was just a lot of bad luck.

It's a weird one, the Costa goal. It was the first time in the game I thought Jags looked like he'd had months out. First half he was absolutely outstanding. Totally shackled Costa.
But the goal, he totally misjudged the flight. I understand the goalkeeper coming flying out and attempting to take them both out.
They made a hash of it, no doubt.
But the horrible deflection and the "goal" aside, it was a very very good performance.

Absolutely agree with you B mate, we are looking defensively much better.

I hope your right.
I'll add to the bad luck dire officiating.

Win the league cup after beating City in the semi and them lot in the final and couldn't care less where we finish in the league, Roberto will be a god. If we lose in the final and finish mid-table he's got to go. It's a fine line, so it is.

I think this is the final next week, I have the upmost confidence we'll beat the winners of the other semi although beating City is a big ask but very do-able for this side.

Even when we were 1 up in the cup final v Chelsea or getting favourable draws at the business end of comps in years gone by I've always felt that we'd never actually win them but it's different this time.

The last time I felt like this was 95, when strangely a lot of people also felt we were going to win it quite early on.

The interview is in the Echo mate. Not posting this for click bait mods just sticking it here in case anyone wants to read it -

Oh my god, speechless, whether or not people think it was a good performance and if you like him but just imagine what you's would all be calling the liverpool manager if he'd have said that, i mean come on guys, this is the worst thing i've ever heard an Everton manager say.

Shocked to see Martinez making bonehead subs to close games.
Who would you have subbed on vs Chelsea instead? Two of his subs, Deulofeu and Mori, combined to score the third goal.

Personally would have preferred Cleverley to Pienaar but not convinced he would have been fit enough, certainly would have been a risk of his calf injury flaring up again leaving us down to 10 men.

The other choices were Kone or Osman unless you'd have subbed in Robles for Howard which tbh I could understand;)

%100 league place anywhere above the relegation zone means nothing if we have won a cup, but if we don't win a cup we have to be in a European place at the very least. No Europe or cup cant be justified with this squad in this league, in which case it has to be see you later.

Good point. I am always winding back to our defensive posture. For me Cleverley over Del Boy in this situation. But he could still be not 100%. Oh well. What's done is done.
