Roberto Martinez discussion

I don't think he is saying that mate. He is saying that our game management and defense doesn't need questioning. Which is debatable. But if it wasn't for a player error, deflection, and offside+overtime goal we wouldn't have conceded. All three of those weren't down to tactics or managing the game correctly.

I still think we panicked a bit, but I can see where he is coming from. We can consider that game a win. If we miss out on something by 2 points come the end of the season then we can get angry. But for now just think that we beat Chelsea 3-2. Time will tell if it had an impact.

Oh my, why are Evertonians the new kopite deloodids, why don't you write to the prem league and demand special dispensation and get all the points we've threw away reinstated, surely if you tell them we've actually won more points than what is shown on the league table they'll fix the table.

Kopites r us.

I just think there have been occasions where naive game management has been an issue. Bournemouth being the prime example.

Going to Chelsea and scoring more legitimate goals than the opposition should be the primary aim with the hope that the officials can...well...officiate sufficiently.

If we want to discuss game management then the subject of such debate should be the officials imo. I just can't see how this game is one to use as a stick to beat the manager with.

I get that people are annoyed. I am too. But I thought we were terrific on Saturday, I really do.

This sums it up perfectly for me

Think people are trying to tie what happened on Saturday into a longer-running theme

Yes, we have been naive and managed games badly at times this season - through a combination of inexperience and poor play from our players and lack of subs at the right times etc from Martinez. It has undoubtedly been a problem. Bournemouth and Stoke immediately jump out as examples

Saturday, to my eyes, simply doesn't fall into that category.

One goal is individual mistakes from Howard (again) and Jags, another is a deflected shot where we'd actually defended well and got a good block in and the third is just plain wrong.

We have ourselves to blame for a lot of what has gone wrong at times this season but Martinez is well within his rights to defend the team about what unfolded on Saturday

That's exactly it.

We are all frustrated that our good play is not reflected in terms of results but it's been different recently and they defended well against Chelsea bar Jags & Howard's disaster. The 3rd goal is offside, there manager says it's offside also. When the referee does his job and blows his whistle there it's slaps on the back to each other and shouts of great defending cause they've done something they've worked on all week in training and they've done it well. The fact that the referee doesn't blow his whistle doesn't change anything as to how we defended, they still did what they should have and hopefully they're strong enough to hold the line like that if the same thing happens again. The defending in the last minute vs City (a game were people were accusing us of being too tight) was much worst than Saturday but we got away with that one so no ones arsed

No one has any issue with the fantastic attacking football we play. It's the constant bad defending, conceding cheap goals and turning impending victories into draws and defeats that are annoying people. We should be right in the mix for a champions league place not 11th behind a rubbish Liverpool team.I also think the managers we won that match rant really really is conduct that is unbecoming of this football club.At Everton we win and lose with dignity decency and integrity. If 3 points were handed out for excuses and fancy talk we'd be leading the league by a clear mile by now.

Tell you what, I know it's a bit Mourinho-esque but Martinez is spot on about "we won the game against Chelsea." Good on him coming out and challenging the perception there, we were screwed over; no two ways about it.

Not really. Having a go about the offside goal is fair and proper and I have no issue with him raising it. Saying that we won the game is just stupid, because we didn't and it just makes it look as though the pressure is getting to him........

Same here, see where we are at the end of the season and if we are on for another 10th-12th place finish then I hope he has a shiny trophy to show for it.

There is no way we will be 10th - 12th, absolutely none.

I said it at the weekend and I'm setting myself up for a big fall here considering we can't string wins together up to now but I see us winning 7 or 8 at least of the next 10.

Right now, I think we're bordering on being the best team in the league and it will be reflected over the next few months.

He's not under any pressure, draws away at City and Chelsea are good results, they just could have been even better which is the gutting bit and makes the feel like losses.
