Roberto Martinez discussion

It's one thing to be angry and another to be worse than any kopite who ever existed, that comment has made him and us look very very bad.

Cut out the melodramatics it is not good for you. Maybe you feel bad about it but I couldn't give a toss and I don't think the rest of the world are too bothered about it.

There is no way we will be 10th - 12th, absolutely none.

I said it at the weekend and I'm setting myself up for a big fall here considering we can't string wins together up to now but I see us winning 7 or 8 at least of the next 10.

Right now, I think we're bordering on being the best team in the league and it will be reflected over the next few months.
that's the thing mate, we have been bordering on that since the week after the arsenal game and yet here we are. We keep saying we can go on a run and we keep talking about how many goals we can score but when 3 in a game doesn't mean a win anymore then it's hard to throw any genuine optimisim league wise around.

what we need to do is focus on next weeks game vs city. Win that and we have 90 minute away fromk changing the scope of the season, but then the hard part comes this summer when clubs want to sign 25 goals strikers or top class centre halves and we are pretty much a shopping basket.

Tell you what, I know it's a bit Mourinho-esque but Martinez is spot on about "we won the game against Chelsea." Good on him coming out and challenging the perception there, we were screwed over; no two ways about it.

He's right. And we also won against Bournemouth, Norwich and countless others.
All is well

He's not under any pressure, draws away at City and Chelsea are good results, they just could have been even better which is the gutting bit and makes the feel like losses.
Have to disagree slightly. Drawing at Chelsea isn't a bad result, but it isn't a good one either. They've lost 4, drawn 4 and won 3 of their 11 home games this season, so we're not exactly in a select group in taking a point off them. Also, in the context of our underperforming season, we really needed a win to kickstart things.

I didn't think we were ready to win loads of games after Arsenal cause even though I thought we were great that day there was big defensive errors and there was in the games proceeding them.

I think there's been a noticeable change since Stoke. We did get away with it a bit at Newcastle but did look more solid however since then the work we've done on the changing ground is clear to see watching over a period of 4 or 5 games and I think we are now genuinely ready to turn these performances in to wins. The removal of Kone for more defensive players has also helped.

They had a bad spell when the players decided to down tools completely, like I've never seen before in this country, to get the manager sacked but they've come through that now and have been playing well recently.

That's the media line yes. But if you look at their result, you'll find that's a bit of a myth. Their last 2 home league games have been 2-2 draws with Watford and West Brom. So not exactly out of keeping with our result really.

there has been a defensive improvement (despite the 3 conceded at the weekend) I agree, and i think that has been to the teams merit, being chopped and changed over the past couple of weeks alone. This was the type of reaction i wanted to see from the manager, last season we went the whole time pretty much doing a moyes and we struggled so badly for it. My main concern now is that roberto cannot balance the defence and attack and we either go attack (chelsea) or defense (city) rather than being able to take advantage of both, bt game next week we will find out eh?

Mate, we let a two goal lead slip, again. I get what you're saying but he's not challenging perception; he's being naive at best, making himself look a bit of a tit & and failing - once more - to address the issue head on. It's all very well being gung-ho and sticking up for his side (which he should by the way)...but the point comes when he has to suck it up and look at the bigger picture...

And the bigger picture isn't all about a 'future-build' and football that makes you soil yourself in tika-taka ecstasy...it's about the basics and it's about balance and it's about learning from your mistakes. ANY boss manager will tell you that.

And the sad thing is most fans can see that.

He has the BIGGEST opportunity he'll ever have at becoming a GREAT manager here, with this team....and he's failing to seize it.

There's no-one else to blame, it's at his door and there's only he that can change it.

Utter claptrap from start to finish.

He's entirely right to defend his players from any external criticism - especially when officialdom has been so disgracefully bad as it was on Saturday to deny them. Any manager who doesn't is an oaf. It's good man management skills.

The bigger picture IS the rebuild that's going on. Secondary to that is getting consistency of performance between the defensive and attacking blend. That will come naturally through experience, and more importantly through natural wastage of a GK being replaced.

And the opportunity he has here that you speak of is entirely of his own making: he put this team together by and large; he is responsible for their technical development; he is responsible for the style of play that's receiving universal recognition. He's had nothing given to him: he's made this chance for himself.

Oh my, why are Evertonians the new kopite deloodids, why don't you write to the prem league and demand special dispensation and get all the points we've threw away reinstated, surely if you tell them we've actually won more points than what is shown on the league table they'll fix the table.

Kopites r us.
Hey mate, not sure why you quoted me in that post as everything you said was irrelevant to what I said.

'UNIVERSAL RECOGNITION'?

Dave, y'know what...I admire it, I do, Love is a complicated thing, it takes the heart and throws it to the mercy of the tides at times. But, please, rest it now...I'll say it slowly...

'Roberto will NEVER hold you in those phenomenal hairy arms of his. Ever...'

There.

Anyway, universally recognised by who? The press? But you say they're worthless Dave, the press? You even opt to primarily have a pop at the journo writing up the interview rather than see that there may be concerns with the content of what's said. Weird. (This IS a BIG love isn't it Dave) PLUS a majority of press coverage is completely in line with a majority of the views here is it not? Are you READING the press coverage? Surely you must be given you cite the football as 'universally recognised', yes?

'It's good man management skills...' No, it sounds a tad desperate mate, him, not you BTW (though thinkin' about it...) And, y'know, we didn't win the game did we, not like BOB said we did...

Oh, and I'll ask you this one really, REALLY slowly

Who...picks...the...keeper?

Best regards etc.
