Roberto Martinez discussion

Oh my god, speechless, whether or not people think it was a good performance and if you like him but just imagine what you's would all be calling the liverpool manager if he'd have said that, i mean come on guys, this is the worst thing i've ever heard an Everton manager say.

It's one thing to be angry and another to be worse than any kopite who ever existed, that comment has made him and us look very very bad.

Only just read his interview. Laughable.

“Do we need to be more ruthless?

“No. We won the game against Chelsea, it’s as simple as that."

And this fella isn't delusional?

http://www.independent.ie/sport/soc...nting-blame-in-wrong-direction-34372432.html?

"In his six full seasons as a Premier League manager, Martinez's teams have conceded 79, 61, 62, 73, 39 and 50 goals yet Wigan somehow managed to survive the first of those seasons. When the concession tally went over 70 for a second time, they were not so lucky.

In a similar way to the early years of Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, Martinez's arrival added flair to the organisation which David Moyes had left at Everton and should have earned Champions League football, but for a late collapse.

The concern, however, is that the same failings keep cropping up and, having conceded 32 goals in 22 games so far this season, they look certain to go beyond the 50 they let in last season"

Good article but I suppose the pro and anti brown supporters will knock themselves out defending themselves.

Winners record is what matters, so far we have yet to write anything of note in that book for 20 YEARS.

Dreamers everywhere !

'UNIVERSAL RECOGNITION'?

Dave, y'know what...I admire it, I do, Love is a complicated thing, it takes the heart and throws it to the mercy of the tides at times. But, please, rest it now...I'll say it slowly...

'Roberto will NEVER hold you in those phenomenal hairy arms of his. Ever...'

There.

Anyway, universally recognised by who? The press? But you say they're worthless Dave, the press? You even opt to primarily have a pop at the journo writing up the interview rather than see that there may be concerns with the content of what's said. Weird. (This IS a BIG love isn't it Dave) PLUS a majority of press coverage is completely in line with a majority of the views here is it not? Are you READING the press coverage? Surely you must be given you cite the football as 'universally recognised', yes?

'It's good man management skills...' No, it sounds a tad desperate mate, him, not you BTW (though thinkin' about it...) And, y'know, we didn't win the game did we, not like BOB said we did...

Oh, and I'll ask you this one really, REALLY slowly

Who...picks...the...keeper?

Best regards etc.
I'm not talking about the scumbag swine of the press corp. I'm talking about other fans and ex-pros in the game.

You're flogging a dead horse with that denial mate. I dont think even the most vocal of RM's detractors would dispute the fine style this team of his plays the game in.

Hmmm, yeah, you've said, '...from the Gods' I believe?

I'm not nor have ever said that the forward play doesn't have the propensity to be good, maybe great at times.

But it's worthless when accompanied with the errors & the mismanagement that repeats & repeats & repeats.

Via the ECHO so, y'know, you'll ignore it but...

'11 points Everton have frittered from a winning position since November 28: Eleven points which would see Everton above Spurs in the top four.

But they keep doing the same thing. Over and over. And expecting a different result.

They led 3-2 at Bournemouth in the 95 minute – but carried on pressing.

They led 3-2 against Stoke with 11 minutes remaining – and an unused substitute on their bench – but carried on chasing.

And they led 3-2 on Saturday – and still didn't suffocate the match
'.

What's hard to understand abaaarrrr it Dave? If it's written on a pissy beer-mat the numbers are still the same, the position remains the same and (despite the manager declaring Saturday a victory) so do the results.

And if you're talking about the comments of Pro's then clearly you're listening with just one beautifully selective ear mate because there are MANY who are flagging up the same concerns as a portion of our fanbase. And as for the opinions of 'other fans'- hmmm, like, and what? I'm not remotely arsed are you? I'd like the fans of opposing teams to think anything other than 'right, it's not over because there is ALWAYS a chance to score here'. But they don't. Because it's glaring...

I get the good stuff Dave, I do. But if his leaning toward not adapting defensively ISN'T an issue to you then you're so enamoured of him that you're never gonna see it.

We're so close to doing something really special and some posters want to sack him and get Pullis or a guy who manages Watford, who they don't even know the name of, to replace him.

Unbelievable ...

We're playing the best football I've seen us play since the 80's. Using and developing more of our youngsters than I've ever seen us do and yet some people, rather than give him more time, want shot of him so we can go back to taking knives to gunfights.

It's shocking.

I swear, it feels like RM is under more pressure than LVG at United in some ways, despite the fact he has a fraction of the money to spend that any of the big clubs do.

I hope we go on a 10 game winning run and every single poster who has implied they want him out gets vaulted.

How about if we finish 11th again?

I said our play was universally recognised and applauded. You poured scorn on it. I stated that pros and other club's supporters recognise our style of play and merit it. Now you shift the ground onto defensive frailties alone.

You're changing the rules of engagement in this discussion to suit yourself.

Just on that defensive issue though (and the press highlighting it and you quoting it), why, for purposes of balance. dont they underline the two games against City and the game against Spurs as (very recent) examples of defensively solid displays? The fact that they dont might give you some understanding of why I dont give a flying one about what some gutter dwelling hack says about Everton, our players and manager, and our season's contours.

How about if we finish 11th again?

We're using a lot of young, developing players and have had a few injuries that have hampered us defensively. We're improving as a team, results might not show that yet but they will.

I'm not saying RM will definately solve the defensive side of our game but what if he does?

Would you prefer to get Moyes back and hope he develops the attacking side of his game?

If we had a different manager in place of RM the chances are we never would have got Lukaku, Dela, etc to come in the first place. RM has put together a great squad, is getting the team playing good football on a limited budget. He deserves patience, not short termism from the fans.

I don't see what Moyes has to do with anything and why people always bring him into things to be honest.

I'll ask you again, how about if we finsih 11th again? (without a cup which hopefully we might just sneak one)?

It's been said 2-0 leads are the hardest to protect and I can see why -- sit back and you invite pressure that, given enough time left, usually results in the trailing team getting back into it, or stay on the attack and open yourself up to the counter. I've seen us cough up leads under Moyes doing the former, and we've been undone by the latter under Martinez. But I also see the improved defence of late -- two minutes of madness Saturday aside -- and am hopeful that will continue to get better.
