Roberto Martinez discussion

Some of the things Martinez does do my head in but the done thing in the game now is let's instantly blame the manager. Apart from Howard, I never really see players getting looked on here. What about their choices on the pitch, the players game management? Jags, Barry, Baines, Mirallas, Pienaar were all on the pitch Saturday when the equaliser came. They have enough experience before being managed by Martinez to know how to see the match out.

Attacking wise we're brilliant to watch but again is it Martinez's fault that at Norwich we don't get a second when utterly dominating or score at Newcastle in the first half, instead shooting straight at their keeper mostly?

His refusal to drop Howard could cost him his job mind at any other club because that's the age we live in.

I think what it is (and as you recognised this) it's that almost every single thread here deteriorates into a referendum on the manager, and that's as a result of people who dont want him here who hijack those threads. You cant open a thread up without seeing the manager being dragged into it and blamed. Different coloured nets? Martinez probably chose them. I dont think there's two sides to this outside that Martinez thread. It's coming from one side.

The same platforms were here while Moyes was manager and it never looked like this.

There's something gone wrong here. It shouldn't be like this. The attitude stinks. Managers cause division, I accept that. But there's something a bit odd about all this.
In all fairness to us this is not a unique situation - any platform where blues have a voice (Twitter, radio phone ins, podcasts etc) all have this common theme.

I can only assume that some blues currently feel that Martinez is to blame for absolutely everything, despite being two wins away from a trophy.

I think it's a coping mechanism to be honest. It's alot easier for people to rationalize in their mind " just get a new manager in and will be top 4 " instead of realizing that while we have a great talented squad, we're still not quite there yet

Ew

Turns out that a fair chunk of our support want the moon on a stick and they want it NOW!

Forget trying to build something gradually, they want it NOW NOW NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess Everton supporters are just the same as every other club.
What's concerning is that they want such whilst accepting:

We haven't won anything major since 1999

In comparison to the teams who do win things regularly, we are skint.

"Yeah, but nil satis"
"Look at all the cups we won back in 1579"
"Nothing wrong with aiming high"
"We're a huge club"

I agree we should aspire to be amongst the elite, but we have no right whatsoever to be there. History, size, our collective ego...all irrelevant.

The only way we will be successful in our circumstances is by gradual progression. Just like all of us at work, perfecting our craft doesn't happen over night and there will be hiccups along the way.

If you don't think Martinez is the man to lead that progression, fair enough, but I find it bonkers to slate a man who has brought and/or developed some of the finest young players I've ever seen at the club.

But he somehow has us closer to 18th than 4th even with those players. The want it now attitude stretches to players too, they just won't stay and it's not likely we can replace them with lesser players (I'm talking more Lukaku here) and somehow still get better results.

I do believe he can get us there if he can keep the players, he just won't. And last season showed me that there is a potential of him doing to us what he did to Wigan at some point

Another thing the what would you do in the Mike Walker/Walter Smith days excuse doesn't wash with me.The current squad is the best we have since Howard Kendalls great side in the mid 80's.Therefore expectations are raised. Were not that far away at all.We just need to stop shooting ourselves in the foot due to our own naivety. That's why people get frustrated.Do that and we can win both League and FA cups and snatch a place in the top 6.

But its not even the kids who are making mistakes. Its was Howard and maybe jags for the first goal.

There are other players than the ones we've got mate.
Make no mistake, we will lose some of these lads along the way, but this manager has proven he will invest money wisely.

And all last season proved was, without pace and invention in the team we are a poor attacking team against opponents who sit in and frustate us. The manager relied too heavily on Pienaar and Osman.
He's rectified it this season.
