Roberto Martinez discussion

But that's the point isn't it? Martinez (and you) are only looking at a single point of the game, and deciding that we should have won because the final goal was offside. Nevermind that we'd conceded two other entirely legal and preventable goals, or that we'd wasted good opportunities to score more, or that we'd carelessly given the ball away while attempting to hold on to a lead, or that after senior players told us just a month ago that we knew we'd over celebrated at Bournemouth and not kept our focus we did exactly the same thing again.

Martinez didn't make the offside call, and he didn't lose the headers in the lead up, can he blamed for us not winning? It seems you think not. Conversely, he didn't cross the ball for Terry to put in to his own net, or crash a half volley on the turn past a world class keeper - further to that, he didn't even sign the players who did. So am i to assume he deserves no credit for the positive aspects of our play?

Martinez is the manager - and his team did enough to win.

I can't see why you should want to criticise him for that!

Well quite.

For me, @Allezfan has summed it up elsewhere on the site;

Performances are generally improved, we've had a good first leg, good point against City, good FA cup 4th round draw. Still time to go up the table.

Two wins from a trophy.

That's how I see it . Some of the football has been fantastic. Should have a lot more points than we currently do . A good win on Sunday will put us in a great frame of mind for Wednesday . Should we fear Man City ?.....No . We can beat anybody but results haven't gone our way . But that's football for ya . And what's an Everton match without euphoria, fume, heart attacks..etc ;)

"Zombies"? Come on mate.

Pro-Martinez and anti-Martinez, both these groups are doing EXACTLY the same thing that used to happen between the pro and anti Kenwright in the old board thread - "BK is killing the club, look at the quality of the Tarmac in the car park that's why Moutinho never signed what's your favourite drink mine's bitter", or "Bill is wonderful" - always ended up in neither side giving an inch and no compromise could be found.

Same here with Martinez.

For me the issue as we've said before is that in this day and age, everyone has access to a platform for their opinion. He's the first manager that has (attempts on) seemingly weekly polls on his fitness to manage - how many hoops does the fella have to jump through? Is he to be ridiculed if he misses a target, and never mind about any positive points? I can't really see the case for blaming Martinez for Byram, the lad clearly wanted to go down south, but if you're against Martinez that's another one to chalk up for the anti people.

I understand people will have their opinions, but just like the old board thread, neither side will budge - in that debate you were very much anti, with this one very much pro.

I have to agree with @The Esk though, some positivity wouldn't go amis lads. We're in a semi final of the LC, still in the FA Cup and may yet move up the league.
I think what it is (and as you recognised this) it's that almost every single thread here deteriorates into a referendum on the manager, and that's as a result of people who dont want him here who hijack those threads. You cant open a thread up without seeing the manager being dragged into it and blamed. Different coloured nets? Martinez probably chose them. I dont think there's two sides to this outside that Martinez thread. It's coming from one side.

The same platforms were here while Moyes was manager and it never looked like this.

There's something gone wrong here. It shouldn't be like this. The attitude stinks. Managers cause division, I accept that. But there's something a bit odd about all this.

Indeed - keep the faith- we have a massive chance to go 8th - yes 8th at the weekend when the RS, Palace, and Southampton all lose or draw and we smash Swansea 5-4....8th and a final appearance - yes thats success !!

That's the whole point, I won't say 'we' but I think with a few tweaks and a little less rigid philosophy we would already be in 5th or 4th and even stretch it to 'and if we were we might've had a confidence boost that got us even higher' ( Leicester ffs, and yes they might bomb next season, but you have to be up there to bomb )...not sat in 11 on GD(?) thinking if we really, really get it right, we might scrape the bottom of 6th place with the tips of our fingers if we try...maybe...and there's always the cups.

If our league form is generally poo. we all know you can't polish poo - but you can roll it in glitter and the cups are just glitter - a pot, a place in the record books, a bit of glory and a nice day out, but sadly today, just transitory glitter.

Erm but we haven't even had your "glitter" for 20 years.

Have you seriously just turned your nose up at a cup after just one of them in 29 years of Everton history?

are you popcorning me or winding me up, I always get the finer distinctions confused...bit like you are now. But I will poo-poo your poo-poos just to keep you happy.
Apart from inferring that sadly, the Cup is not what it once was ( and the micky mouse cup was never anything but MM ) did I say a bad word about them, mention I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

anyway, I've just come in from eating the finest fish and chip lunch since we last won a cup of note ( which I reckon to be aprox. 25 yrs 8 mnths.) and thus have no room left for pop corn

I will end in best Carlos fashion

Hi mate how are you?
