Roberto Martinez discussion

No ban needed,he just needs to keep his comments to current team matters.sad to say he's increasingly appearing to be deluded.Yes the ball should have been a goal kick V City, yes we should be challenging for Europe with this squad, but he needs to stick to addressing the problems we have in winning games and doing it on the training pitch.Unfortunately it's looking beyond him.

Bit hard to do when the press ask questions about the previous game

There is a curious thing happening right now with him, press wise, that doesn't bode well for his future I feel.

The story, so to speak, and stats are becoming more prevalent in the reporting of them. They're even introducing a snippet about today's presser in slightly mocking/faux astonishment tones in relation to his suggestion that the club isn't 'underachieving'. Mind you, that's SKY like. But - and in my experience - when the sheets start sucking it's only a matter of time before they get their teeth pwoppper into it. And that's generally the start of the end...

No matter what my feelings on him I genuinely hoped - nor expected - it to get to this.

And in relation to his presser, the odd thing is, I have an feeling that he's failed to even register just how big the next two games are.

If the Cup game isn't convincing or...blimey...even goes against then I'm avoiding the NEWC entirely because it'll be horrible.

Shouldn't let it mate, football should be an escape for 90 mins 1-2 times a week, not a total dominance of your being

I can get pumped for a game, be elated or deflated after a result then after a few hours I'm over it

I think this season has been so frustrating as when we get beat or concede silly goals bad luck etc I'm kinda expecting it. Still it does my head in it's like Everton are stuck in a rut and I'm worried of slipping back to being a nobody team with kak players lol

Y'know the weirdest thing - and I don't say this suggesting I condone him patronising us (fans) at all - but it really, REALLY wouldn't be hard to get some fans back on board with him if he handled the pressers better. I'm not saying he lie either, in fact the opposite, I'm suggesting he be more honest (or APPEAR to be more honest) and I'm genuinely surprised there is no-one at the club guiding him to be so or to at least say the 'right things...'

If he come out and said a kinda 'So, it hasn't been working lately - I'm aware of that, WE'RE aware of that - and that's something we're going to sit down as a team and have a BIG look at...' END. Then some (me included to a point) would go 'OK, sound...perhaps he's getting it at last...perhaps...' because something like that covers bases for him, appeases some fans, makes it sound like he's aware and buys time...

Instead he comes out lobbing blame like a toffee girl afflicted with a baaaad flingin' twitch and walloping on that we're NOT underachieving.

And that makes me a bit bilious TBH.

...that, right, that concerns me because - and despite what DAVE et al will say - that, in this day and age of modern & monied football, is little more than a particular set of bad luck and circumstance away from becoming a reality.

That's nothing more than a tosh sound bite intended to take the pressure off and buy time.

He'll have been in the job 3 years come the summer, how long's it going to take before he can stop us shipping poor goals?

There's no signs of that changing at all. in fact quite the reverse.

We needed to attain CL football this season to have any chance of retaining our star players, now that's dead, the linchpins of that side will move on, and we'll have to rebuild again. It was this season that he had to deliver, and he's failed.

Has to lye with the players as well though mate. A step from Martinez would be dropping Howard, like.

He's not lobbed any blame.

I agree.

I'd have more respect for him if he came out and said that with the players we have then we should be doing better in the league, and that he takes full responsibility for the under achievement, and is working hard to try and improve the situation.

Instead we get some piffle about being ONLY being 2 1/2 years in and saying that losing games is part of the development. What a pile of horse droppings that is.

Nearly all our young exiting prospects have vast PL experience now. The young age is not an excuse that Martinez can use to be honest.

The 'core' of these players nearly have 100 apps each in the PL.

Barkley - 99 apps
Deulofeu - 46 apps
Lukaku - 135 apps
Besic - 29 apps
McCarthy - 192 apps
Mori - 17 apps (just joined)
Galloway - 17 apps (only breaking through)
Stones - 65 apps
Browning - 7 apps (only breaking through and crocked)
Cleverly - 123 apps
Coleman - 170 apps

Yes, but they're still young. Rooney, even after 150 apps for Ev/Utd, was making stupid mistakes like getting stupid red cards etc...

They are still naive to a point. Coleman and Cleverley weren't even included on my original list btw - at 26 and 27 I don't count them as being 'young' per-say

Martinez has spent £84m gross - £34m net.

Pochettino has a current negative net spend of £8m at Spurs.

Can we park that penniless nads please.

They also had players there before he joined like Eriksen, Lloris, Kane (yes, he came through under Poch, but he was there already), Chadli, Lamela, Dembele, Vertonghen... I could go on.

Poor point there.

I think he is under pressure now. Martinez from 1 or 2 years ago would never have blamed a ref. He knows he's in a battle, I'm sure.

No, he blamed the marginal decisions not going our way, which is true. He also said it is up to him and the side to change it.

I wish people would use everything he said, not just what they want to hear.

Sticking with Howard for so long is a massive error.

The players have to take some responsibility, but its the organisation and lack of drilling that's creating the consistent conceding of poor goals. That's the root cause.

All he has to do is make the sensible quote "that's football" and then carry on and maybe address the fact we aren't getting results and that he and the team are working hard to change that. And stay away from the flights of fantasy about where we should be.
