Roberto Martinez discussion

there is so much wrong with it.
he thinks we should have started the season better, fair comment. martinez as manager is somewhat responsible for that.

he thinks lukaku is the type of player who needs to play every game - u might disagree but i dont see what's offensive about it

The difference these days is this..

The goal always looks likes coming imho...eventually we do strangle teams to death and inevitably get the goal. Today was just one of the rare days we didnt.

Were averaging something like just under 3 goals at home a game this season so to complain when we dont score is quite poor form.
Agreed. ONLY game this season we aint scored

The difference between Martinez mentality and Moyes mentality right here:

Martinez acknowledges that ultimately you need to win things to be remembered in the game.

He said: “The only way we’ll get respect from outside of our environment is through winning titles.

We need to embrace the idea that we’re a top club and a big football club. Slowly we’re working hard to develop a big club mentality within the squad and that’s where the excitement lies.

“We know how difficult it is. You look at the investment in the league there are a lot of clubs thinking ‘we have to win a title’.

“We’re not in that bracket but we’re a club that can aspire to win a title because we’ve won them in the past, it’s in our DNA.

The guy isnt just popped in and out of the team - he has played in every game this season.
What else needs reassessing?

In my opinion the only thing which needed reassessing was the defence; which he did and has looked tight since Anfield.

We have had Coleman, Barkley, Mirallas, Stones, McCarthy ALL miss significant games. This seems to go unnoticed.

Take out Terry, Costa, Cesc, Hazard out of Chelsea and they would suffer.
Take out Gerrard, Sturridge, Sterling out of Liverpool they would suffer.
Take out Sanchez, Ramsey, Giroud, Metersacker out of Arsenal and they would suffer.

I cant fathom what else Bobby could have done differently except the defence. Which he sorted.

We're still stuttering at the moment,

I've seen enough to see that we can compete very well this season but were still struggling to find that top gear for a sustained period at the moment.

I see players beginning to hit form though and feel we're.not far from getting into our stride and really imposing ourselves on the league

I agree about the stuttering and some of the things that are happening are our fault and things we can affect.

There's no doubt though that the injuries we're suffering are absolute killers.

Alcaraz today - Alcaraz had been playing well too, and now he's out for at least 2 months. It had a knock-on effect in the game, taking Barry out of his most effective position.

When you think we also have Stones out for a long time, Mirallas out for a long time.... 2 big players for us, coupled with Oviedo and Kone.

We're not suffering 1 or 2 week injuries, players are getting crocked for multiple months at a time.

I genuinely believe we are a club who could reclaim our place at the pinnacle of British football if given the investment, patience and passion. Many of those aspects are slowly settling into place now, truth be told...

I agree. Look at the attendance figures for a team which only hints that they could be a force. There's a lot of potential at the club but I suspect it's a long process, something to remember after today's game.

Well, how about the speed at which we're passing the ball? How about the unwillingness to play anything other than the easy pass? How about the lack of movement off the ball? How about our substitutions and their timing? I could go on.

Don't get me wrong, he's a decent manager, but the reality is that neither our results or our performances are anything to get excited about. When was the last time we saw a truly exciting Everton win?

I would say there is absolutely no doubt about that.

Look how we have managed to stay "best of the rest" for most of the past decade without a pot to piss in.

If we had been as astute as United and Arsenal when the Sky gravy train had started rolling, instead of being left standing on the platform by Peter Johnson.....or had the gazillionaires taking over like at Chelsea or Citeh I firmly believe we would have won the European Cup some time in the last ten or fifteen years......plus a clutch of titles and domestic cups.

Not meaning to start a board thing here but didnt City's owners approach us before going there? We had the opportunity, for whatever reason we have not been able to grasp it.

We have discussed this issue before and one chap claimed to be an acquaintance of a Sheik Mansoor and he said sommat along those lines.

Anyone who thinks we are ever gonna challenge for top 4 under a manager who only gives a [Poor language removed] about counter attacking wingplay is a total imbecile, the total lack of any creativity in the central roles is facking terrible, it could of been adressed but it hasn't, today proved it for me today, what if Kev leaves we are going to be facked, wait till next year, every team in the league is going to know how to get a point against us

Well said.
Even with ten men we still didn't want to test their keeper. Taking Mcgeady off who was a threat was a bad decision.
