Roberto Martinez discussion

Yep below the likes of Stoke, Newcastle, West Ham, Southampton. He also spent £28m on a striker who I assume he has told to run the channels.

Hang on.... 1 point behind Stoke, 2 behind Newcastle and 4 behind West Ham. Hardly insurmountable - we could overtake the first 2 by winning our next game!

Southampton are this season's surprise package and doing really well. Plenty of other teams are behind them too.

Was told a story at the Lille game about Martinez in his Wigan days.
Couple of us were discussing the fact that for cup games we end up with some absolute whoppers sat amongst us who don't sit there throughout the season.....the type who moan and whinge all game and who contradict themselves by the minute. Anyhow, apparently some season ticket holder at Wigan wrote a letter to Roberto after every defeat telling him where he'd gone wrong and what he should be doing tactically etc. 99% of managers would have filed in the waste bin without even reading them and so it was a massive surprise to this guy when Martinez called him and asked him to come and see him. He spent three hours listening to him, and then absolutely astounded the nay-sayer with his absolute passion and understanding of every aspect of his team, the opposition and football in general. The guy simply couldn't comprehend the depth and accuracy of Roberto's knowledge, and fair play to him acknowledged the fact AMD apologised for his offensive letters. Roberto simply thanked him for being interested in Wigan - most would have tried to belittle him.

Based on the above, I'd absolutely love Roberto to read a few of the posts on here after the game and call a few into Finch Farm.

He calls me in on a weekly basis mate just for a helping hand. I take 35% responsibility when it doesn't go too well like days like today.

The league is absolutely wide open this season and any team that puts any sort of run or consistency together will go far - look at Southampton.

Even look at Newcastle - dead and buried a few weeks back, Pardew looked a goner. Then they win 5 games in a row and they're up to 7th. That's what happens when you get your form together.

No coincidence though that virtually all the Prem teams in European competition at the moment, bar Chelsea, are all struggling. It really takes it out of you playing 2 games a week regularly. At least we never lost today, the main thing is that we stay in touch.

In December, once the Europa group stage ends, we can kick on, as there's no Europa games then until the middle of February (if we get through).

Not the manager of last season.
He needs to change things and get rid of this slow build up that everyone has sussed.
With the biggest squad we have ever had stop playing players out of position and why are rom an ross going backwards.
Not the messiah some on here think he is.
needs to up his game

I don't know what instructions he gives to defenders but I am having way too many anxious moments with defenders dicking around in the penalty area or close to it when the ball needs played away from there quickly.

That nonsense with Howard laying on the ball yesterday and Gibson being caught out being two glaring examples from yesterday.

Watching our team defend at times makes you see how Wigan were perennial relegation fighters under Bobby.

The inferior defenders at Wigan couldn't retrieve desperate situations as readily as ours do.

(well, most the time anyesy :()

I agree I also think he is much more suited to la liga with his tactics and slow build up.
The premiership is fast and now we have been sussed out after last season he is not changing anything.
The fans have been saying all season to mix it up and play with some pace but he keeps things the same for some reason.

It's not only a dangerous style of play, but it is very often slow, boring and ineffective.

worked quite well last year tho didnt it? we are having a bit of tough time in the league at the moment..but we've gotta give the manager time and belief in his methods, doesnt mean he's above criticism mind

Last year we surprised teams it was new to us and worked well but this season they have sussed us.
We need to change things up but for some reason he won't.

nah i dont think its that...i think lukaku has been out of form, barkley has yet to gain form

its the players, not how we are playing

all opinions tho isnt it....

It was much faster last season, Neil.

And I don't we are having a particularly tough time in the league....we are lobbing along nicely, well in touch with the CL chasing group.

And by and large I am still enjoying life under Bobby and the passing style of football.

But the fact remains we have regressed from last season.

And to me this is due to the fact that the build up play is much too lackadaisical and we aren't moving the ball from defence to attack with anything like the pace of last season.

It is all opinions your right and your right about out of form players but he has the best squad in years to tinker with surely others could have done a job for it too work.
We play so slowly an allow teams to get back then we are rushed into mistakes another reason our final ball is poor on the whole.
I just hope he changes things round a bit
