Roberto Martinez discussion

Pressing in the right areas is the key as well. No point running around aimlessly. Just need to press the ball at the right time.
Like Barcelona last night how they hunted and pressed to get the ball back .The game with Swansea at home we virtually let them have the ball for five minutes without us pressing them to get the ball back

Sorry. A couple of pages back, somebody was trying to use a match from November that we won 6-2 as something to bash the manager with.

That's where we are now.

This is getting steadily more desperate than those who banged the drum about David Moyes' early years here, despite doing nothing whatsover for a good five years.

If you can't highlight any positive league achievement beyond something that is three years old, something is obviously wrong.
Don't forget that 72 points was built on moysies defence and how the players had it drilled into them until coco told them to forget everything defensive

Just needs to bring in a new defensive coach I think

Attack and Midfield are fine, with a competant keeper now between the sticks

Just need to be more consistent when it comes to defending

And we need to press more when we don't have the ball

The thing that annoys me the most is the constant backing off when players are running at us.
We're practically inviting them to get in shooting rangerange.
Baines was the most obvious but they all do it so I'm not sure if its a tactic. If it is point 1 above is a must

It will deffo come from the manager and like you say we help other teams to shoot at our goal

I have to assume its deliberate but barcelona have an ability to make it look like there's a moment of weakness, you get sucked into the trap and bang they are in behind. They did it a couple of times last night. When we play a team set up like Arsenal did last night we don't seem to be able to convince them to come out at all

Hi mate. I assume you're talking about me, because i think only me and @BlueToff mentioned that game, and he certainly won't have been bashing the manager. Thing is, I wasn't using it as a stick to beat the manager with at all. I didn't even mention the manager in fact. I was simply pointing out that not all teams come to Goodison and shut up shop. Theres actually post that goes over that in greater detail. Hope this clarifies the matter for you mate, but if you need me to explain anything else to you, just give me a shout. Hugs. xx

Been saying this since early last season, its crazy how much space opposing players get and how we never close down.

Hey lads haven't you heard, Moyes' 5th place finishes were meaningless but Martinez's 5th place finish was so meaningful that it negates everything bad he's done since. Because that's how it works

Ah only because places count less than points. 2nd place on 81 > 1st place on 80 points .. to some anyway.
At least Moyes won the 7th place trophy or better consistently ;)

I still have confidence in Martinez, despite the 'cults' best attempts to make it impossible to like him, and the league positions, and the errors, the lack of defending, the media drivel, lies and spin, one track thought process, bad subs etc etc... because I like where the attack is going....

But he needs to build on this run and keep it going, don't slip back into the letting the enemy score at will and actually do some defending, because the truth is, we really are quite close to being as good as our squad suggests we could be.

One day, under Martinez, we may actually reach the heady heights of not underachieving.. At which point put the cults on ignore and enjoy the good times being an Evertonian.. Until then... ffs Martinez sort it out.

That's actually the nicest reply I've ever read on here. I'll pipe right on down now.
