Roberto Martinez discussion

Personally, I'd say this season feels better than last season.

Performances are better, we're 7 points better off after 26 games than we were last season and we've done better in the cups too.

I'm not for a moment trying to say this has been a successful season, but it wouldn't be at all correct to say we have got worse season on season.
That was reference to goals conceded to be fair.
Whilst some improvements have been seen it's not enough for me. Away we have been better and can't complain.

At home is the issue. Same points, won one more game, lost 3 more games, conceded 5 more goals and scored 8 more. For me the there has been no improvement in results at home.

I think he means going forward. 72 was great I agree but we've dropped off a little since then
We have. However, and as toffeeblue9 states above, this season cant be seriously compared with last season. We had a very good first season off Martinez, followed by a poor season, followed by a decent season as we speak - and one that can be classified as good if we get, say, 8th plus another SF spot, and very very good if we win the cup.

It's all to play for and if anyone is calling this season already they are holding themselves hostage to fortune.

72 points wasn't delivering?
Are you sill going to be banging on about that in years to come as his only achievement.
The end of this season that's forgotten from me.
Reason being I wanted to see which of our previous seasons was the real Bobby. Looks like I'll have my answer soon that season 2 is the real Bobby.

Going to seem like I'm being pedantic here, but last season after 26 games we had scored 33 goals and conceded 37

This season we have scored 46 goals and conceded 35

Again, hasn't declined this season.

In the interest of being fair, we have the 4th best away record in the league - only Leicester, Spurs and Arsenal have been better. We have the 4th worst home record - only Palace, Bournemouth and Villa have been worse.

No, it's not the fans per se. The away supporters are magnificent. And look at how they've been rewarded: 9 wins in all competitions and two losses. Chalk and cheese. It;s a very legitimate question to ask why there's such a massive discrepancy between home and away form and to bring in the issue of supporter reaction....I mean, it's not like it's not been talked of as an issue this season is it?

I'm surprised you missed the chance to credit him with putting an atmosphere back at Goodison, albeit an angry one.

One reason the home fans are restless is because every time we make a pass we look like we are about to have it intercepted and go on to concede, we need a run of games with clean sheets or low conceded points like the current run, but much longer to start letting the fans sit a little easier. Currently we are a bit of a joke, Hollaway's Blackpool with more money. Goals scored have become a little meaningless as we know that no matter how many we score, it may not be enough.

2 goals scored should almost guarantee a win, currently its about average for a draw, its hard to get behind that, no matter how good we look.

But we are improving, and like you say, we are winning games and we are tighter at the back, it will take a little time, but if we can keep that going, people will start to relax at the games, and when we score, will start believing that it means something other than the first goal of many for both sides when we open the scoring.

But that's including our away form which I stated has seen a great improvement.
Our home form which should be our bread and butter has seen no improvement at all.

The way I look it is try to win or at least not get beat at home and pick up draws and bonus wins away. We are doing the away bit but failing at the home bit.

No we don't...

The home fans (some of them, and not all the time) seem to get angsty that we 'pass it safely', yet when we look for a direct pass that doesn't pay off, it's 'why did we give possession away?'

The rest of your points I agree with but not that. Fans getting angsty helps nobody.

Just needs to bring in a new defensive coach I think

Attack and Midfield are fine, with a competant keeper now between the sticks

Just need to be more consistent when it comes to defending

And we need to press more when we don't have the ball

Pressing in the right areas is the key as well. No point running around aimlessly. Just need to press the ball at the right time.

I think some of this discrepancy comes down to the oppositions home attitude also. Teams are expected to open up a little more at home in front of their fans and that gives us more opportunities on the break. At Goodison teams are certainly less adventurous. We have an inability to break that down and when you give away chances like we have been you will get punished for that inability as we did vs west brom. We play some great free flowing stuff on the break but we struggle when teams sit back.

Just needs to bring in a new defensive coach I think - 1. He's not concerned conceding so this isn't going to happen.

Attack and Midfield are fine, with a competant keeper now between the sticks - 2. Agreed.

Just need to be more consistent when it comes to defending - 3. See point 1.

And we need to press more when we don't have the ball - 4. Agreed but don't think this fits in with his style.
