Roberto Martinez discussion

My (obvious) point is that those Everton legends (not some washed up never have been Everton legends like Barton and Merson) all see the potential, but the naysayers on here see doom and gloom.

It's ok you can pick and choose what ever you need to keep that house of cards you have standing. I understand the predicament you are in.

Careful someone doesn't open the door. Lukaku and Barkley will leave and will knock it all over on the way out

Listen you appoint a manager, with the knowledge that he has a philosphey - that philosophy needs to be backed - I think we should be doing better then we are with the oppurtuties we have had, but we know what we have bought into and if you do, in my book it needs time.

You can take a short term outlook and post on here after every good or bad result, but you also have to look at long term objectives as well and top to bottom, a change philosphey has benifited the club as a whole, yes there are areas in the first team that need improving, but I don't get the sense that we are not building and trying to improve, as frustrating as parts of this season have been.

I honestly feel the short termism in the game is the biggest scourge of the modern era, one glaring bungling example is Chelsea, they sacked a championship winning manager a quater of the way into the season. I'm quite proud this lunacy doesn't occur at Everton, we are Prob the last club of dignity left in this regard - I'm quite proud of that.

Everton and being an Evertonian stands for something else and calling for the managers head after a 1-0 defeat vs Wba against the run of play, isn't what being an Evertonian stands for. In fact it means you need to watch less SSN.

Agree fully on the short termism self entitlement infecting the game.

I just think lids will be settled by signs of progress. The inconsistency is making the natives restless.

People don't see the glaringly obvious though, he has gone to players like Barkley and Stones and said right you couldn't get into the team under the last regieme, your my future and I'm building a team around you.

You have to admire that courage, the same people who were screaming for the like under Moyes are calling for the head of the manager for putting his division sign on the table.

Problem with the public is people.

*possibly/always Tim Howard as well.

Aye true enough. It's been a 180 degree turn from manager to manager.

Thing is that the current one has ambition and a strategy (whether it works or not we will see) to get us back up competing. The previous one was happy bemoaning glass ceilings.

I admire Martinez's intent, but anyone can have a positive vision - it's the lack of ability as a manager to actually implement that vision which is the issue.

Yep, I get that a lot of fans feel that way, and with merit going by the results.

I agree with Lineker that if he can keep this team together then very good things may happen soon. He also needs to evolve which I'm sure he will as a young manager.

I think keeping Lukaku and Stones beyond the summer will be tough mind.

I know I speak for myself and others when I say it's not just because of the wba match. It's the 18 months of disappointment that preceded it.

At what point does short term become long term. If we are in the same position at the end of this season are we allowed to be disappointed then?

You're allowed to be disappointed after whatever timespan you want. You could even be right, time will tell.
