Roberto Martinez discussion

Okay mate fair enough.

Personally, I feel United would be mad to promote Giggs and it wouldn't see them progress at all. Mourinho guarantees a big name for them to compete with Pep.

I just feel that the time is, if RM does leave, the summer to do so as there will be plenty of very decent managers who would come at that point.

My choices - if he did go:

- Quique Sanchez Flores - doing very well with Watford and knows how to drill a defence. Does like his teams to play football and wouldn't negate any of our attacking qualities.
- De Boer - the time's right for him to come to the Prem
- Pellegrini - ambitious but more realistic than Mourinho. Unsure whether he would be the right man to take us forward with this team however.

All that being said, RM showed yesterday how good a manager he can be. He also, ultimately and unfortunately, showed us how bad he can be as well.

That's why for me he still gets until the end of the season barring the next two games don't go totally to pot. if they do, then we may well have to look at a change in the international break but I still remain unsure as to who we could get that would guarantee improvement at this stage.

As much as it can be the manager's fault, there is also a fundamental fault with many of these players that can't be addressed by anybody except themselves.

Speaking of which, the time has to come where our experienced players such as Baines, Jags, Barry and Osman etc step up and talk to Martinez. Something needs to be done and they I think can be the only ones to drill into him and his staff what is needed for them to improve defensively.

Good points. I have heard Pellegrini may retire but actually think he is suitable for Man Utd, a more suitable fit than Mourinho.

If Martinez had any integrity he would walk before the board are forced to act. The man is out of his depth but the board prides itself for backing the manager.

The depressing thing is that by the time it dawns of them what this clown is doing then it maybe to late

I thought Niasse could play from the left aswell and has good workrate. If he'd brought on Barry for Lennon n we'd lost that would of been the worlds worst sub n too negative i bet aswell.. Lennon was basically a second striker anyway he was everywere.

People crying saying worst sub ever are acting like he took of a centre back n out Del there
But he didn't play on the left, and he didn't show a good work rate. So I'm not sure what your previous understanding of his role has to do with anything.

Unfortunately our most unsuccessful Chairman ever is still lingering about, he won't sack Martinez

I wouldn't be too sure about that. He loved Walter Smith but knew when the time came he had to sack him. He's not going to give Martinez another free season like last and this season.

I'm pretty confident that he will take Moshiri's advise on board come the summer and they will both make a decision that will be for the benefit of the club.

I didn't understand taking Lennon off at the time, I suppose he was wanting Niasse to run the channels and hold the ball up at the other end of the pitch but we struggled to get the ball up the field and we all know what happened next.

We saw the best and worst of Martinez yesterday, unfortunately the worst outweighed the best. I still think that in general we still look more solid defensively (bear with me here...), compared to the Stoke game at Goodison for example, was very much a you score we score kind of game. We looked like conceding at least a shot on goal every time they came forward. Yesterday we were 2-0 up and looking good for it. Apart from the point blank save in the 1st half I can't remember Robles having to make another meaningful save?

Unfortunately the Lennon sub cost us and we went completely to pot. I didn't feel like we needed to make a change anyway.

3 wins in our last 6 isn't bad in isolation, what I'd give to have 3 more draws to go with them though...

He gets an easy ride from the media judging from his pressers, I mean has anyone challenged him on his record ?

The Echo hasn't in fact the only one to do so is Paul Merson and i don't even like that wino but he is the only one to see through the bull

je seems untouchable at the minute

Even those who were sitting on the fence have now turned. Yesterday's result has left many baying for blood. Needs to win the FA cup or he'll be out on his arse. Kenwright is a stooge now. Moshiri will axe him in no time. The man did not pour millions into our club to take direction from Bill.

Martinez has only got himself to blame.

Like Moyes insisted on taking Round to Utd - Crazy!, Martinez should have been smart enough to acknowledge that he had some serious defensive shortcomings at Wigan and was in desperate need of a coachng staff refresh.

Instead he brought along Graeme Jones (fraud) etc.. and the rest is history. Proving to be a fatal mistake.

It was disgraceful management and you know it

What got me was that nobody seemed to replace Lennon. Niasse seemed to go upfront and there was just a huge gap on the wing where Lennon was playing.

His decision making just gets worse and worse every week. It really is a shame because the attacking part of his game plan is superb, but you need a solid foundation and it just isn't something he is prepared to address.

His type of football would only be successful at clubs like Barça, Real, Bayern, etc. They have that much quality that defence doesn't come into it. Unfortunately the Premier League, especially this season is a monster and on their day any team can beat anyone.

Spot on. Del should have came on over naisse

I'll be surprised if we don't start next season with Martinez in charge, I think even his most ardent supporters must know that he's fortunate for that to be the case.

It's been two poor seasons with a good squad of players. How long do we persist with this? If we're in exactly the same position this time next year is that good enough?

The brand of football he aspires to has only ever been successful at two of those clubs. There is absolutely no evidence to back up the assertion some have that he'll achieve it here.
