Roberto Martinez discussion

What gets me is the total lack of pressing, if we pressed teams we would put pressure on teams and stop balls getting crossed into the box.

We lack any kind of intensity in our play and this offers teams the chance to attack us unopposed.

We lost due to a number of factors, that was 1 of them.

I'd go one step further and say yes, we lost because of that sub.

We may have been pulled back to 2-2 without it, but I honestly don't think we'd have conceded three if Deulofeu had been brought on, or even if Lennon had stayed on, knackered or not.

I've had time to reflect on it and I actually think that that sub is hands down the worst sub I've ever seen an Everton manager make. It made no sense and never had a prayer of succeeding, and the fact he's paid to make that call when quite literally anyone else would have made a better one is mind boggling to me.

And if he'd brought off Lennon for Barry and we'd gone on to lose? That'd be the worse sub ever?

If we'd won 2-0 you'd still go on about the Lennon Niasse sub because it was that bad? No i don't think so
But we lost.
It was an awful substitution live with it

Very little been said (as far as I can see at least) about the shambolic individual defending, the piss poor penalty and the petulance of Mirallas and their contribution to yesterday's result. Seems everything is the managers fault.
I'd be interested to see the comments in the match thread when we went 2-0 up and won the penalty.....I imagine it was relatively complimentary.
The key to it for me is twofold:

A proven defensive coach to join the back room staff.
Players with balls and a winning mentality....we have a few but too many with no spine.

I probably would have mate, the game turned on one tactical decision/sub.

So how do you go from a perfect sub to "der werst subz eva", all the way down to wanting the manager out? It's like watching the game again, FFS.

Because one sub was made after he had time to think about it at half time; the rest were on the fly.

Martinez set that side out perfectly for the game, was let down by Mirallas, but the tactics were fine. What has been his problem, over and over again, is game management in the middle of game and making downright shocking tactical calls.

Well im racking my brain and I honestly cant think of a worst sub he could have made at that point, assuming Lennon had to come off, probably the worst selection to replace him with was Niasse.

You see if we hired a clearly superior manager then i'd be daft not to move on from martinez...

Flores -- one season in prem.

De Boer -- Not keen myself...

Pelligrini -- Have you seen his signings + hes close to retirement

Mourinho -- i like him. But hes not one to build a club. Hes a short term fix. Hed leave us with a washed out squad full of shattered 30 year olds...if he agreed to sign only u23 players for a long term vision and to build something then i could be swaywd even if the football was boring.

Thomas Tuchel gets a good press.Im keen to see how Martinez does in the summer window and see how close we are to top 4 at Xmas before judging him.
Exactly the same arguments that were made by many in the summer and look where we are now. Interested to know why you're not keen on De Boer.

Plenty about Lukaku's pen in the match thread and his thread. Plenty about Mirallas in the match thread and in his thread. Plenty about the shambolic defending in the match thread.

Plenty about Martinez as well, perhaps because he's the manager he takes quite a big chunk of the criticism

Never once said I want the manager out Friend.

He made a sub, Besic came on, you know my feelings on that boy, he won a peno, not much else to be fair, but at least he didnt get injured!!!

He then made a terrible sub, which possibly cost us 3 points.
