Roberto Martinez discussion

It won't be, but it will paper the cracks untill we are back to this shambles again.

I think winning a trophy - unless he somehow turns this around and we get top 7/europe (very very unlikely now due to losing yesterday) - then for me that buys him time as he will have got us our first in 20 years.

The fact is then he will be given a decent budget (and he is very good in the market ), but even so I think he'd still have to show immediate signs of turning our home form around.

extremely interesting to see how Moshiri possibly changes the owner - manager relationship thingy. He knows that Everton aint trigger happy club. But naturally this can change, not trastically but there can be change innit...especially if and when he will be demanding more from our footy.

If course we ran out of steam after the sub... Which conincided with the end of the game, the furthest event away from the sending off.

It's fatigue! Understandable fatigue.

Coupled with a strange sub, poor finishing, poor defending.

All at play.

I agree mate I do.

But, the sub at the time was absurd and it's no coincidence that we conceded straight away.

I'm all for RM and want him to succeed and like you will defend him because our play at times is superb but this lack of being able to see out games - something that he had shown signs of being able to do in recent weeks - is getting too much now and it's quite frankly pathetic throughout the entire coaching staff and players.

Sorry i forgot, we've been great since 95 haven't we ?
We haven't had a squad as good as the one we have now since then, better players should mean better results, but we are Everton and that doesn't seem to happen. He won the cup at Wigan but also got them relegated. I'd sacrifice a cup win now for a manager change.

those better players must also live up to that tag though.

I'm not excusing RM for his sub yesterday but the players were the ones out on the pitch that capitulated. Ultimately I feel RM facilitated that by his mental sub of Lennon however, though there were other factors at play.

You know, this idea Everton don't play with wingers is really one of Martinez's biggest flaws. We are awful at dealing with crosses so he plays us narrow and allows crosses to come in pretty much unimpeded.

One of my biggest problems with people who support him is they constantly move the goalposts for him. 'Give him the first ten games of this season' became 'Give him until Christmas' then became 'Give him until the end of the season'. Going to the league cup quarterfinal is apparently enough for some that league position, wherever that is, is fine. The league table doesn't lie. We are MASSIVELY underachieving. No idea how any can say otherwise

I've said it before, he's either unwilling or unable to fix his issues. If that's the case, he needs to go sooner rather than later.

Do you think he will improve the winning rate soon? I don't see it given how we lose matches in a similar fashion time after time. He may lead the team next season but as the table suggests, we are likely to finish 11th than getting a CL or even a Europa place. Is this a way to move forward?

It was an awful sub mate, and agree that there is just no excuse as it didn't need to be done or if Lennon really was shattered then the smart choice and easy choice would have been Barry or Baines. it's one of the first times this season - bar the Gibson one vs Bournemouth (I think) - that I have seen no logic at all in one of his changes and rightly so he deserves all the bashing and pressure he will get for it from the fans.

Me and you have had a lot of reasoned debate on here and I think we can agree that although we didn't always agree on points we did at least get to the stage where we could both see that RM was starting to show his ability to change.

Ultimately, he's proved your theory that at the end of the day he can't change fully by that inept decision in the 76th minute yesterday. Before that, I don't think i'm overhyping it when I say that it was one of our best displays of the season to date - especially considering Mirallas' sending off.
Totally agree mate, I was sat there for the first time this season thinking 'this is a proper everton performance' with passion and character, and the fans responding accordingly. Then he had some sort of brain freeze and ruined the whole thing.

But he's brought some of these players in and you can't tell me we haven't been extremely unlucky this season, even half a dozen more points and it's not looking as bad as people make out, we could be involved in two semi finals as well, is that not good enough either ?

With 10 men.
We ran out of steam.
It happens.
Yes you are right but even with 11 on the field theres plenty games this season we look shattered in the last 10/15 mins .
Poses the question are they really fit enough , 3 nil up and cruising at Villa we even dropped deeper inviting them on to us.
The obligatory cross into our box is headed home by Gestede , if they had got another straight away like yesterdays I could see us
losing the 3 goal lead .its far too easy nowadays. The moment Andy Carroll came on I knew what was coming, it didnt work for them straight away
but the longer the game went on the inevitable happend. Been like that most of the season (& some of last)

Exactly, i don't know how Bobby can be blamed for three goals in 12 minutes with one strange substitute.

Now is next season then judge him.
