Roberto Martinez discussion

This season mirrors last year so much it's unbelievable.

We have so many poor results and so many excuses given, then we win one game and everyone jumps on anyone dare to question the manager and the cycle starts again. Last season we went from December to march without a league win. This season we went November to February without one. Beat 2 of the bottom 3 and again people defend the manager! Or like last year,, best 2 out of the bottom 4 and the season was salvageable.

In both those seasons we had a 20 goal striker and an international defence. I can guarantee a better manager would not have these results, or lose leads so often. A better manager would have this side right up there.

Just to put it in perspective, the only two strikers in the league with similar scoring records this season are first and second, we are 12th below west brom and a point ahead of Bournemouth.

12th, only a newly promoted team are below us and the teams legitimately in a relegation battle. Any decent premier league side are ahead of us. Should be embarassing for us but least we can take comfort in that we are playing the best football in the league 'touched by the gods'

What is the point of the posts in this thread? Do you feel like what you say repeating each others criticism gets a job done with anyone in power who makes a decision? It's all surface froth.

We win next week and we're at Wembley and that and a midtable finish leaves the manager in peace and in place.

He's not doing this and he's not doing that. The players are the ones on the pitch throwing handsome leads away. Do you think that bypasses completely the notice of the decision makers at this club? The manager can set this team up to get in a winning position even with 10 men; he cant make those players grow a pair and see out the last 10 minutes.

Settle down. Absolutely nothing is happening on the managerial front other than them backing him with a lot of cash in the summer to add steel.

What is the point in your posts and why do you repeat your mantra?

We are crap. Have been for two seasons. It's the managers fault at this stage , not the players . Your full of ifs and buts and it's played out.

How many times have you said 'if we get a win against so and so Martinez will hang on another few months' what kinda weak stuff is that. And more often than not we don't get that result I've noticed. But sure enough if we get dumped out of the cup you will have something else weak to say. Coming close to finals doesn't excuse how crap we are in the league last two seasons. So so lame boasting about a possible semifinal. Honestly.

I think that for both you and i yesterday's game was a turning point. The goodwill finally got stretched to breaking point.

I agree to an extent yes mate.

It's the fact that - and I said at the time - that when he made that sub I just felt like it was totally un-needed and almost knew we woul dmess up somehow.

Genuinely, 5 minutes later and it'd have been fine, in my mind.

Even after the penalty miss, I wasn't thinking 'this will definitely come back to haunt us' - but after that change I was.

A sad inditement of the players as much as the manager, mind, and it's such a shame after all the good work they'd done and Martinez's tactics. That 75 minutes was honestly one of the best displays I've seen us put in at home all season.

No mate. Penalties are missed sometimes - it happens. The 3rd goal there would've just been a luxury, but at home, a 2-0 lead should be enough to win the game.

Penalty miss or no penalty miss, you have a two goal lead with 10 minutes to go and lose. It's unacceptable. The way we manage leads is terrible. I walked out the pub at 2-1 yesterday because I knew exactly what was coming. It's a sad day when you know exactly what's going to happen, and Everton do absolutely nothing to prove you wrong.

I agree in general mate but in that situation as a striker in such good form just hit it down the middle, with power. He's scored those crucial penalties before but that was massive for us as it would, I think, wrapped up the points.

It happens though and as I said, I don't blame Rom for the result as we still looked fine until that sub.

Yesterday was a turning point for me, I gotta admit, to see how happy Besic was winning that peno and then us not only missing it, but going on to lose the game was to much for my Mo to take.

He deserves better.

Well in his own words, lets hope he has learned something.

The thing is he has shown he had since the turn of the year and then for some reason in one fell swoop we take a huge step back - and I am positive that - even taking all other factors into account - it's 90% down to that sub.

How do you know Dave. It'd calm a lot of people down if you let us know about the inner machinations of EFC, the links with the hierarchy you have. I think as fellow blues we at least deserve that. Just struggling to comprehend how two seasons have panned out so badly.

He seems as though he has a crystal ball and spends a lot of time milking it.

I'd love someone to vault my lists from last year, be curious to see how much of my opinion then rings true 12 months later!

We aren't a sacking club, and under our new ownership since the 90s we have also gone nowhere. We are a mid table club which is baffling to say, but its true. Teams who were in a lower division not too long ago are outperforming us, consistently as well.

haha.

He was superb though.

Barry's been class this season and I think he'll start on Saturday, but it has to be in a three with Besic and McCarthy next to him. Put Barkley and Lennon either side of Rom and we look a different side.

Then, when we're playing teams we will have to go on the front foot against, I'd play Besic at home rather than Barry, and save Gaz for the away games.

One of the positives yesterday for me was seeing McCarthy and Besic work so well as a partnership.
