Roberto Martinez discussion

Everton manager Roberto Martinez: "In the first half we did enough to win the game, but you don't win games with one-goal margins.

"I'm incredibly proud of the effort of the players. In the second half we were disrupted - Leighton Baines got a knock to the nose and got punished when Hull got the goal and we didn't have the energy to get the winning goal.

"With the number of games it's incredibly high - the effort and character was magnificent. They came here with a clear approach - a lot of energy and made it difficult to break them down. Hull were ruthless in taking their chance."

read through a translator = I'm disappointed that Hull outplayed us at home and Distin has got bricks instead of his shinpads.
Says it all.
He needs to manage the team properly instead of trying to be so popular and nice.
The effort was magnificent is a worrying statement.
If he is as ruthless in his words to the press you can imagine what he is like in the dressing room

Ridiculous talking about Martinez getting sacked. The feller is a very good manager.

But he's made some catastrophic errors and they've come home to roost. Not moving for a commanding CB in the summer was one of them. It's plagued us all season.

He's also had players in ill-fitting positions. It's just plain weird his wide player thinking. You have wingers, you play them, and you keep faith in them despite the odd under par performance - you dont shove Barkley/Naismith/Osman over there.

His subs have been horrifically slow. Tonight we should have had two on right on the hour when they drew level and the other soon after if it didn't work. That's a worry.

Exhausting the cm pairing to the point of fatigue and injury: unreal from a so called physio.

5/10 for the season so far - and he gets that almost solely for the EL campaign.

Aye, a lot of spot on points there d-dog.

Yes but it may not be good enough for many reasons. We have nobody hitting form really, and players in and out with niggles, and players making mistakes at the worst moment when the opposition don't look much of a threat.

However you don't see a thread of people highlighting the above and posting all night about it.

No, because its much easier to put the boot into the manager, and pull out statements like "lack of managerial nous" as if form, confidence and winning games can be turned on and off by a manager doing a couple of things differently or as some would wish doing exactly the things they have decided are wrong.

Of course he may be making mistakes, football isn't an exact science, but that can be discussed without the jumping off the cliff stuff and over-simplistic criticism that flows in here when things aren't good.

..not directed at you really Dutch.
I suppose its directed at me but so its my opinion.
I would rather say what i see than shut my eyes to it and look for excuses that are not there.
This season he has managed the team very poorly.

sorry daz, I think i've said this to you before, but this is just a nonsense. I know you want to hear certain things, but what a manager says after a game makes no difference. Every manager at this level can put the boot in and be tough, I wouldn't spend a split second worrying that he can't when needs be.

nono...just talking about the general OTT reaction. I just used your phrase as its fresh in my mind.

You are saying what you think, and stating it as fact in a way. I've mentioned no excuses, just other reasons for the poor form and league season so far. Just as valid as the "lets just blame the boss" ones.

i think he could try and be a bit more cute. why don't we play these sort of teams at goodison on the break. give them the ball and lull them into a false sense of security and smash them on the counter? our only good results have come in the europa against a team like wolfsburg who have attacked us possibly more than any other team.

chelsea didn't even attack us that much, they were just totally clinical.

Is he showing it though mate?
Why say the effort was magnificent it makes him look stupid with a comment like that after the performance

I'm still 100% pro Roberto. But he's trying everyone's patience. The difference between the league and EL form is massive. For some reason he's prioritised that tournament and has his thinking cap on for it and the PL games are just seen (apparently) as fillers until Europe comes around again.

Roberto needs to watch this doesn't slip out of control now. We'll get snotted at City, but the games against QPR, S'ton and Stoke just got massive. He needs to pick up 6 out of the next 12 points to stop a rebellion.

Sad to see.

No problem mate.

Agree with a lot you said. I hate to see managers getting fired left, right and centre after a few bad results myself. Should leave that to the Spurs, RS's of this world. However, I'm getting a bit worried about the supposed lack of fighting spirit in our players under Martinez this season. Could just be a confidence factor though as chico already said.

Fair enough mate sorry i got the wrong end of the stick.
