Roberto Martinez discussion

" My guess would be 10th-12th. Moyes' stability was a very solid basis for the team, and is now gone. You'll probably wonder why you've gifted so many points when you could've been in the Champions league if you hadn't conceded so many silly, needless goals. "

lollol when was that written? absolutely mental that was called back then!

EDIT:: August 10, 2013 - hahahahaha the Wigan fans are time lords.... or just realised Martinez for what he is.

Funny thing is I said to my dad at the time that it was a horrid sub. Just knew something was going to backfire.

There were so many options - one of which was just leave it as it was for another 5 minutes or so and let us kill off the game.

Everyone around me was baffled when it was Lennon rather than Rom whom made way for Omar.

It really was the daftest substitution I can remember, given the circumstances.

Apart from fetching Gibson on before the re-start at Bournemouth thereby giving the ref reason to add extra stoppage time on.

43 less than they scored mate :)

They always had an attacking outlook under Ferguson but to say they abandoned defending isn't how it was.

There's nothing wrong with attacking intent and seeking to win games with attacking football, but there's a balance, that's all that's being said in relation to Martinez.
I remember after they lost the league to City everyone said they needed a new Defensive Midfielder so Ferguson bought ..... Van Persie!!

Again, interesting read of points.

No agenda here, just interesting to read the odd point here and there which is years ago in his managerial career. Im sure not all of these are relevant to the here and now either :)

Also, picked out for reference here;

big alcaraz fan lol

The share thing about the defensive and goals conceded thing is its like reading the threads here.

the worst thing is that wigan fans predicted we would finish 10-12th under martinez that first season, instead we are doing that every other season instead.

I will always say Everton now mirror Wigan back then exactly, nothing has changed. Thaqt is the worst thing for me, people here defend him but at the end of the day, he was exactly the same way with Wigan and he went only in one direction with them, hell right now he is doing the same, 5th - 11th to currently 12th!

I don't mean he will be sacked instantly I mean he will have lost all faith supporters and board and he will be gone end of season
I don't even think that will be the case. I think it would be a bit harsh to narrow down his performance over three years to one match as the ultimate decider of his position amongst the fans and board. People will continue to see things differently if we lose against Chelsea. It would be different if we were playing Villa, but I think it would be harsh to put it all on him beating Chelsea in the cup, especially because if they do win it then the goal posts will be moved to another arbitrarily-chosen fixture.

My grandfathers mate who is a wigan fan said virtually everything the man above said, to the point were I am not too sure they aren't the same people ! I wanted bobby here in the first place, my grandfathers mate warned me to be careful what I wish for :(

Disagree he has been really poor in the league for 2 seasons and its not acceptable. This is the last thing he has going for him

Spooky how close this is to what's happened so far and we know what happened next to Wigan
and yet SO many people on here especially still ignore the signs because 'it won't happen to us'. Bar getting hammered more often, it is happening to us the same as it did wigan, said it 12 months ago and i'm still saying it now.

is it a suprise?

Jesus i think there are some fans on here who could read entire threads on martinez from his wigan days and still defend him to the hilt because he just needs a chance/unlucky/players fault/fans fault/refs fault

I agree that things have been going poorly for 2 years now, I said as much in an earlier post. I just don't think the board will sack him in a situation where one result is seen as the tipping point/last straw. If it happens it will be once the season is finished and they review the team's performance in its entirety.

Last game's been gnawing away at me conscience. I haven't gone more than ten minutes without Saturday's (latest) debacle being out of my mind completely. It's perpetually there...

I've tried, but I can't give him the benefit any longer & merely hope we win the derby as the bare minimum I would've accepted. Even that wouldn't good enough. It'd be too little, too late.

So I'm afraid that's it from me; he's shot his bolt, and forced me hand

Martinez out.

Yes, Saturday has made me into a very reluctant plotter.

The majesty of those attacking moves and spectacular goals is constantly undermined by Keystone Kops defending and disgraceful game management.

If moshiri is sanctioned soon he will have his mind made up already.

He isn't going to pump millions into a managers transfer budget that he doesn't trust.

If he has been in talks for 18 months he will have seen how badly underperforming we are with the squad we have and will make his decision.

At arsenal he will be used to a certain degree of relative success and I doubt he'd accept the position we are in.

Martinez thinks he is safe but I think that's more wishful thinking than truth
