Roberto Martinez discussion

The funny part for me is this: when the oligarch's bag carrier 'took over' last week there was general acceptance that there's be another season for Martinez, a feeling reinforced with the Villa win. Then we lose another home game and the roof caves in for some and that's it - Martinez Out!

Sorry, it makes no sense to me. Not one bit of it. The fickleness of it all is scary. I realise it's social media and no one acts in that massive mood swing fashion in real life, but nevertheless.

Martinez is in the post and it'll take some shifting to get him out of it.

We win against Chelsea and the fickle turn 180 degrees again. We all know this to be the case. Plus ca change.
60 points...ha ha lucky to get 45 the way things are going - but keep fishing.....

Chelsea haven't lost since Hiddink came in.

Fickle isn't questioning a manager who has the best Everton squad in a generation below a tony Pulis west brom side, it's justified. Because everyone isn't a happy clapping bizarro who claims we are the second coming of Barcelona despite being bottom half of the table.

Averaging a goal a game - home or away - still means you have to score two (or more) to win...

Only Utd and Spurs concede less than a goal a game on average, so it's the same for everyone else. Also, scoring goals isn't our problem. We score more than we concede both home an away.

Do people still read daves posts? Like, as if they were serious? Wow.
He has turned into the entertainment with his crazy ramblings.
If he would just admit to a few of the things martinez has got wrong it would be better for him.
I think he could end up licking windows with pencils up his nose come may but i do like him

As Neville Southall said....We've five internationals in our back line....Six, if you include Oviedo.

Why aren't we conceding less than a goal a game with them? Or even with two defensive midfielders in front of them?

And why do we concede in quick succession when we have a two-goal lead and we're looking comfortable before their first goes in?

They score one, and our arses go.

RM has got to address the issues the team is beset with defensively if he wants to keep his job for any length of time. I think that's beyond debate, unless you're davek. lol

I think the question is how long he should get to try and improve it. Personally I'd give him until the end of the season to show some signs of promise. Despite his defensive failings I do think he's done a lot of positive things to the team but he has to get the balance right.

Assuming he stays in charge, at least until the end of the season, I think it'll be a tricky call on wether to stick with him or not over the summer as whoever is in charge may have to deal with huge issues like a possible replacement for Lukaku, depending on his stance, as well as some other players.

It's a really big call for the new owner and the board either way but I don't think it's as easy or as clear cut a decision as some posters seem to feel it should be. We're scoring goals for fun and have the ability to go toe to toe with the big clubs playing attractive football, something I never thought I'd see with our team.

It is concerning that RM should have started sorting the defensive side before now, that fact alone worries me the most as to wether he is capable of doing it long term.

If he is in charge next season I will support him but no matter how much any of us want him to succeed next season will be make or break for him if the board decides to stick with him.

They would have done had the lino and ref done their jobs like...

I think what it comes down to is that this quarter final has now become the make or break for the season. Ultimately, even considering all the other factors, RM has brought that on himself because of that one stupid substitution on Saturday.

That defeat turned a lot of people against him and moved a lot of people like myself - who were firmly on his side but would accept when he did wrong - onto the fence with it all.

His style isn't the problem. It's his inability to manage us through a game when needed the most. That victory Saturday would have set us up perfectly for the run-in - beating a media darling team with 10 men and doing it comfortably so.

Even taking into account the penalty miss - which despite his extremely good game Lukaku has to take responsibility for not hammering that in - I still pin the defeat down to Martinez.
