RM has got to address the issues the team is beset with defensively if he wants to keep his job for any length of time. I think that's beyond debate, unless you're davek. lol
I think the question is how long he should get to try and improve it. Personally I'd give him until the end of the season to show some signs of promise. Despite his defensive failings I do think he's done a lot of positive things to the team but he has to get the balance right.
Assuming he stays in charge, at least until the end of the season, I think it'll be a tricky call on wether to stick with him or not over the summer as whoever is in charge may have to deal with huge issues like a possible replacement for Lukaku, depending on his stance, as well as some other players.
It's a really big call for the new owner and the board either way but I don't think it's as easy or as clear cut a decision as some posters seem to feel it should be. We're scoring goals for fun and have the ability to go toe to toe with the big clubs playing attractive football, something I never thought I'd see with our team.
It is concerning that RM should have started sorting the defensive side before now, that fact alone worries me the most as to wether he is capable of doing it long term.
If he is in charge next season I will support him but no matter how much any of us want him to succeed next season will be make or break for him if the board decides to stick with him.
This is the thing mate.
Supposing he got sacked if we lose vs Chelsea. Switching managers now to a caretaker manager may well make up the minds of Lukaku and Stones that they are leaving - irregardless of who the permanent manager ends up being.
I think RM - and this is basing it on Saturday when all he needed to do was show he had learned the basic principles that have cost us all season in similar situations - has shown that he just isn't capable of the defensive side.
He has until the end of the season for me but if he doesn't get top 7/8 (and that's only if we turn around our home form) or the FA Cup, then I think the time may be right to part company.
Again though, it's not up to us. Fgs I've just seen a bloke on twitter posting a Change.org petition to get him out of the club. Y'know, because that's the type of thing discussed in parliament...
