Roberto Martinez discussion

So game management is clearly an issue that needs to be addressed then.
I honestly can't get over the sub on Saturday mate.

I've been a proper happy clapper this season, even when I know I've been in the wrong.

That sub just beggars belief, and for me to still be fuming on a Monday night is out of character.

The players on the pitch must have just sighed when the board went up, I'm convinced.

We've won 4 home games in nearly a year. I don't think it's that hard to win more than that, a competent manager would have won a lot more.

And I'm not disagreeing completely.

The defeat Saturday is what has changed my stance on RM.

I still don't hold him solely responsible though and this 'best squad in years' needs to take some blame as well.

What question? Out of the 7 games lost 5 have been by the odd goal whether that be the odd on in 1, 3, 5 or 7. It doesn't matter how great we seem to be going forward the opposition know they are going get chances to score. Playing like this all the time and we have gotten exactly what we deserved. Trying to make it look any better than it is by saying we deserved this and that is just getting desperate.
Who said I was trying to make it look better? Calm down mate. I was asking a question.

How many games this season did you come away from thinking we deserved to lose? Please list them.

Definites :-

City away in the cup
City away in the league
Arsenal away
Tottenham away
United at home

Maybes :-

Stoke at home ( if you defend like that then you probably deserve to lose )
Maybe Leicester at home as well for the same reason

It's a conundrum really.
We're either very close to getting it right, and / or there's something fundamentally wrong which hasn't been addressesed ( yet anyway ).

Narrow margins between success and failure, but to address those margins you first have to admit, privately, if not publicly, that there's a problem.

City at home, spanked like utter bishes
United at home, see above, this time be a terrible team
Arsenal away, schooled
Bournemouth away, game management
Palace home, Pardewered
Leicester home, out fought, on our own manor
Stoke home, BLEH
Chelsea away, game management
Swansea frigging City at home, SACK
City away, beaten by a team of utter mutants
West Brom home, Tony frigging Pulis
West Ham, game management
Answer the question just for once without being a tit mate.

The point is that it's a results business. Give me the Moyes side finishing 4th over this any day of the week. The main concern for the fans (in my opinion at least), is the growing feeling that the time is ticking for this talented squad. Every week that goes by that we aren't climbing the table and competing, it's more and more likely that our best players will leave.

This isn't being over the top - it's 100% the truth because we all know Rom could play for more or less anyone in the world.

People are going to read me saying "talented squad" and think "are they that talented when they can't win matches against supposedly worse teams?", but there's a reason we had offers for Stones which would have made him more or less the most expensive defender of all time. There's a reason that Rom is 22 but is still likely to finish top goalscorer in the league.

I'm love-hate with Martinez because I can see what he's trying to do and appreciate Rome wasn't built in a day, but bringing on Niasse is a perfect example of how ridiculous he can be in some cases.

That decision instead of bringing on a defensive player to see out the game screams arrogance that he hasn't earned, especially with the amount of points we've thrown away this season.

Admittedly things have improved since the turn of the year, but no where near as much as they need to and he needs a reality check.

Europa League being an issue last season? Spurs are in the EL with a lesser spend than us in recent seasons and they're second in the league.

We've had some bad luck for sure but every team does and I'm a big believer in making your own luck.

Of course there's a problem if we're 12th in the league at this stage. Cups performance has been better this year at least.

It's whether those problems are insurmountable (glass ceiling mentality) or can be fixed given time.

Aye.. This is about right TBF.
The last part especially.

Surely he must be addressing some issues on the training pitch privately ??
