Roberto Martinez discussion

Of course there's a problem if we're 12th in the league at this stage. Cups performance has been better this year at least.

It's whether those problems are insurmountable (glass ceiling mentality) or can be fixed given time.

Err, I didn't mean you had to admit there was a problem ffs. I was thinking more of folk at the club !

His record as you know for 2 seasons is appalling. Give me a reason why he should not be fired for that?

Thanks.

So far for sure we have:

City home league.
Man Utd home.
Spurs away.
Arsenal away.
City away cup.

Any more?

It's a difficult question. I thought we were really poor at Barnsley away, every time the Tykes went forward I thought they would score. Ironically despite playing poorly we won and the league cup campaign has been one of Martinez's plus points.

In some respects we didn't really turn up against WBA away, the game seemed to change when Kone came on but for most of the game we were anonymous.

But some say the mark of a good team is one that wins, even when it plays poorly. Don't know what that makes us.

Exactly.
I don't see it as a glass ceiling, it's all fixable.
Whether Martinez can/will fix it, tough to say. He's fixed some things during his tenure but also failed to deal with potential issues that exacerbated over time. Needs to pick up results in the short term to get people back onside, and that should be his first point of call.

What do we think are Martinez's strengths and weaknesses people?
He has now made a tough game.. In fact not tough.. Massive game, even more difficult on Saturday.

He picks Stones.. Tuts and groans immediately with the slightest misplaced pass.

Absolutely no need to tinker against West Ham with the defence.

And if it comes down to the last 10 mins and it's up for grabs.. Arses will be twitching all over the show..

Indeed mate. I did think of Barnsley as the other option but in the second half we done, in my humble opinion, more than enough to take the tie.

Quite mad when you ponder that question though. Makes you wonder how far away we really are.

He's a semi smooth talking Latin lothario / but shows occasional signs of madness and wants to blame everybody else for his failings.

He can sign good players / but can't get results out of them.

Talks a good game / can't back it up with results.

It obviously is.

And that's down to both Martinez and the players. They have to take some of the blame. I really do think that maybe this team just isn't as good as it's made out to be???
I disagree with that for one simple reason: it is almost completely comprised of internationals in almost every position. There was talk of bringing Barry back into the England squad, same with Lennon. Mirallas and Lukaku are on the Belgium team(the #1 team in the world), McCarthy is one, Barkley/Jags/Baines, Funes Mori with Argentina. This is a team that is massively underperforming. I do not think you can really look at it any other way.
