Roberto Martinez discussion

He took them down and ruined them

He won them the FA Cup and I know a lot of Wigan fans will be greatful for that moment.

Ask them whether they'd rather win that final, or spend another year scrapping against relegation?

I'm not saying RM's faults aren't there as they are but that was a remarkable achievement. It's not his fault they utterly collapsed after that...

The wigan fans i know would rather premier league football still and rightly so.

Tbf mate even if he gets what I want him to get I wouldn't give him (personally) a full season to prove himself next year.

To avoid the risk of a strong run papering over the cracks, he'd still have to be set a target (not that we would know about it like) of having achieved a certain goal by the 10 game mark and if not then he may have to go.

Whether that target is as simple as something like not conceding 10 goals in those 10 games or whatever...

Mate, if we win our game in hand we sit in 9th.

id have been fine with 8th at the start of the season. We would be 2pts of 8th and 3 off 4th.

Yes we would still need to win that game of course but it shows the fine lines of success and failure e.g we'd be there anyway if we had won last weekend....OR howard hadnt been playing etc etc

if youre saying you would be happy with 8th now then whats the drama?

8th for me is a fair season based on the old guard now being moved on...young players in the squad gaining experience...injuries to key players (not seeing mccarthy/besic together) and having a small squad in terms of quality but a large squad overall...

8th this season and a push at top 4 next....as far as i can tell weve almost achieved my own target this season.

People are being extremely lenient with him.

Last season we had the same thing and we all said including me we'd see how he did this season.

Well it's this season now, and there isn't much left of it and he has been awful again.

I just don't see any point in keeping him on tbh.

I'd keep him until the end of the season and then just let him go. People are wanting him to change, he has been on record to say he won't change, he had the same problem five years ago as he did now, we have the best squad we've had in years and we are at serious risk of losing key players because he can't get them winning games consistently Or even against half decent teams.

We need a winner in charge now, no more experimenting on mangers, we aren't skint anymore so lets stop acting like paupers.

It's easy to say oh well calling him tactically inept etc is disrespectful, but it isn't. Its true.

I don't know any other club aiming for Europe who would accept his failures so i dont see why we should.

I think 7th may be gone now mate.

The Cup would go a long way to giving him more time obviously.

In the league my main aim is just to see the home form match the away form and see us put a run together.

I think we are quite lucky drawing those lesser, lower division teams during the cup runs this season. Once we face a good team like Citch then time is up. Chelski is gathering pace recently and we don't particularly play well at Goodison for 2 years so I don't have high hope on Sat. There is more chance to progress if we are playing away dare I say.

He had to trim costs by 25-30% when the others around him increased their budgets...that factor seems to be totally ignored when comparing him to other wigan managers or their relegation.

Granted.

But 8th would be a respectable and acceptable finish from where we are now, and matches one of Moyes' seasons where we were poor but showed good flashes in 08/09.

I'd like Europa, but won't be devastated if we don't get it.

You mean the season where we got to a cup final?

But for the ref we would have beaten city and been in the final.

How many times do we have to ask for no personal comments?

Thread banned for this and previous comments in the thread.
Coupled with an earlier threadban of another member. Please lads, play nice.

Disagree with each other by all means, that's healthy conversation, but don't get personal because someone doesn't reply "you are 100% right and I agree entirely".

Do you get personal face to face because people don't agree unequivocally with you day to day? No. So don't do it here. Act like adults please.

This is absolute nonsense! Did you even bother to watch the West Ham game? The fan's have had the life sucked out of them because of Martinez. Nobody has any belief that we will win. Everybody around me on Sat knew that once West Ham scored that it was only a matter of time before they got the second (I don't think think anybody imagined we'd bottle it to the level we did and conceded a third though!). How do you be positive when you KNOW that we will bottle it. We are so predictable its painful to watch and that's down to the manager, no matter what his delusional acolytes may think.

We are so predictable that we have scored 51 goals - so far - this season.
