Roberto Martinez discussion

Hell's bells. Which other club would have been so patient? He is not a complete failure, as others have pointed out much good has come in his tenure. But in the end, hard evidence remains - we are not doing well and seem unlikely to change and improve. It's not a matter of if, but when, he has to go.

Let's look at our 'peers' - the club's we should be competing with. The 'just outside top four' club.

Which other club would have been so patient?

Spurs - no. [Phrase removed] - no.

Then lower than us (bar the last season and a half). West Ham? No. Stoke? No. Southampton? No.

We shouldn't either. People seem to think it's a badge of honour that we sat through this crap

Although I'm from L4, I don't think we can tell others they're 'lesser' fans because they live elsewhere. That's really quite patronising there mate.

What if I said the same about people who come from outside the club's and my postcode? I don't like the business of telling blues "you're not a real blue". We're better than that fella.
I've had a season ticket over 14 years... supported the club over 30 years... yet I don't love in L4.. does that make me a "lesser" fan? Don't think so I care about the club as much as the next fan...

To make it clear I agree with you Groucho :)

I tell you what, there's definitely something going on.

First the Echo compares Martinez to Mike Walker (by the sports editor, no less), then a national newspaper story about Martinez losing the dressing room & explicitly stating how.

Seems like a change in direction from how the local & national media treated Martinez at Everton. I know Saturday is the catalyst, but it's just weird how this has changed. Almost as if they're getting briefed!

Those Lukaku and Del 'only signed for Martinez' shouts absolutely reek.

Where else were the bids for Rom? The Wolfsburg bid never materialised. No one else made a serious cash offer. He's been worth every penny but there were howls of derision elsewhere when we paid £28m. Join us or do a season on the bench were his options. Fair play to him for showing a will to actually play football, but Martinez the reason? Give over.

Del? Again, where else was he going to go? He had a disastrous spell at Sevilla. No one else wanted to take the risk on him. The way the Spanish Kopites structured the deal, they see it almost as a no risk deal- becomes a world beater and he goes back for not much of an outlay.

Except when it mattered. Fraudo made his tactical faux pas and a mind as limited as that meff in charge of West Ham took advantage.

Utter drivel. First leg vs City. 0-3 at Southampton. 0-3 at Stoke. Our home record [before Saturday, another one to chalk up to the fraud] vs West Ham was outstanding. Easily the best win of the season?

Forget the jarg comparisons to Leicester - freak season. Compare us with Spurs. The Horrors from the Pit. At time of writing we are below West Brom and they are absolute bum expulsion.

If that article is that last stand of the desperate, it's an argument that no longer holds water.

I don't think anyone will ever come up with a better evaluation of West Brom than "they are a total bum explosion" that made me lol very loud that.

I did a double take when I saw a critical piece in the Echo.

Yeah I was a bit shocked too.... never seen a piece like that before...

As has been said it's like they are getting briefed... maybe it really is the end of Martinez. ..He has come out and defended his philosophy quite strongly today, makes you think if he is getting questioned by the club about his direction...

It's nothing new mate. The Echo through Prentice have been doing it since last season. They know how useless and piss poor they are - a bunch of talentless plagiarists by trade - so they try and get a few hits for their ill-thought out bilious scribblings by ingratiating themselves to the squeakiest wheels amongst the cluib's support and lubricating them with a bit of grease.

There's no briefings. Just the flames of forum fumage being fanned by what passes for our local 5th estate.

The tides a turning, national and local press getting fed up el fraudo and his constant BS. It's tiresome listening to the clown

Local press are.

National are not saying anything other than an article claiming the players are unhappy that's really only saying 'well they must be because they're not winning games'.

It's conjecture - though based in common sense - and is being presented as fact.

I've got nothing wrong with them slating RM for it but at least base it on the things he can definitely be slated for. There's plenty of them.

The players have so far shown no signs they aren't playing for him, however.

Especially when those of us that live outside the city spend a lot more time and money getting to the game. But if you love Everton, you love Everton, regardless of what it says on your birth certificate or where your post gets delivered to. That's the [Poor language removed] end of it.

Local press are.

Local press = often made up of fans of the club [Greg O'Keefe] and arguably closest to the action?

The players have so far shown no signs they aren't playing for him, however.

Why would they? Get paid, go through the motions, get a new club in the summer. Easy game easy life.

The ones who probably will look keen are the likes of Cleverley, who know they will be shipped out when the new boss comes in.

And what a glorious day that will be
