Roberto Martinez discussion

I disagree completely with this. I would love to be proven wrong in a huge way, I would love this manager to become the manager i thought he could be, when he inherited a great squad with lots of talent. I would of loved to of been proven wrong at the majority of our home games.
Unfortunatly the reality started to sink in that his first season was pure luck, and the opposition set up to face a Moyes team.
Martinez took them by suprise with attacking football, but they soon learnt how to set up against us and have been doing so ever since.
I would love him to prove me and his critics wrong, I have no problem addmitting when I am wrong and apologising, I would love to say I was wrong about him. I hope we smash city however I think he will set up to score 7 if they score 6
Mate - I have said earlier there are clear problems to solve or if not then the time to change is in the summer. My point is that there is a growing number who are losing sight of a massive cup match Saturday and are focussing too much on the manager. If need be he goes in the summer but...for Saturday we support our football team who will be here long after the current players / Manager. Goodison should be a very difficult place for Chelsea but we seem hell bent on venting our frustration on our own team. There is very real prize here - let's do all we can to try and help this team claim it.

Local press are.

National are not saying anything other than an article claiming the players are unhappy that's really only saying 'well they must be because they're not winning games'.

It's conjecture - though based in common sense - and is being presented as fact.

I've got nothing wrong with them slating RM for it but at least base it on the things he can definitely be slated for. There's plenty of them.

The players have so far shown no signs they aren't playing for him, however.

Don't fool yourself mi amigo; the tides are turning and the banners are burning. El fraudo is on a downwards slope

Ah, the Superfan Complex.

Yes well done mate, you're all ready and waiting for Saturday. Godspeed.

But you're wrong when you say we aren't supporting our team. We see the club as being much bigger than a single quarterfinal, all of us do, not just you.

I remember being told years ago that Wenger would ask as many people as possible that attended his pressers / events what they had thought of the weekends game. Not because they knew more than him - of course they didn't - but he used to do it to see if people had noticed a minor detail he has missed, or work through his own thought process.

Could you imagine Martinez doing that? He'd only listen if you agreed with him.

Entirely bang on about Ross too. For all of Martinez's faults, Ross would not be where he is now if it wasn't for Martinez's trust and patience with him.
Aye, Moyes farmed him out, Warnock sent him back. Bizarre.

Martinez gave him a go, worked out well.

I feel like an odd one out here - I don't hate Martinez with a vengeance but I don't completely love him at the moment either.

Who knew you could have a moderate opinion on the manager these days eh? Seems people want to either tuck him into bed or kill him with fire.

I'm not saying you have to settle for less for Everton, just try to take a moderate view - not liking the manager 100% doesn't mean that you have to actively campaign for his sacking or harangue those who like him. Likewise Martinez fans - you don't have to aggrevate those who dislike him either.

Balance is best and some could do with it when posting here now and again. Try it folks, you might like it.

Do you listen to his pressers anymore mate ?

I honestly don't bother, and that was before I got the hump with him.

I honestly think that the polarisation and name calling from both sides dissuades others from posting.
You cannot post a moderate viewpoint without either side launching into a diatribe about how you aren't extreme enough in your viewpoint.
The forum is poorer off with the lack of discussion with the slanging match that this thread has become.

Since you remember the game so clearly you will remember the reason they booed. We had a direct free kick and instead of doing the obvious thing and having a shot on goal we passed the ball all the way back to Howard. It was as negative a piece of play as you will ever see. The home support has indeed been very quiet for a while now. Funny enough it's decline coincides with the arrival of Martinez.

But isn't that what negative play exactly you want him to instruct now?

And didn't the fans gleefully sing The School of Science with the arrival of Martinez?

Like you i'm not completely in love with the guy either. Indeed i have growing reservations about him. But what i will give the guy is my support especially in the lead up to a possible Oxford (Kevin Brock) game definig change. If at the end of the season our new Boss see's a change is needed then so be it. That time certainly isnt now.
