Roberto Martinez discussion

I think he's doing great overall. The team in general played very poor tonight, possibly the worst I've seen us play under Roberto but he has to take some blame for this one. Everyone watching could see what was coming. I'm amazed he didn't make any subs earlier. It was like a moyes performance with his subs.

Ok, McGeady was never going to get more than 10-15 mins so I understand that one but ossie should of been off after an hour max. The first sub was forced on him, and he never even tried switch things around. Oveido Miralass and ossie all stayed in there starting roles the whole game!

Season and signings so far as a whole Roberto gets 8/10
Tonight's game and tactics 5/10

Can't be perfect all the time I guess.

In fairness though when the ex-boss failed to act, or did the usual subs it was because it was his tried and tested method.

Bobby has called it well for most of the season so if he didn't see fit to change it after an hour, or immediately after their goal then I would give him the benefit of the doubt and say he had his reasons.

I for one was thinking we didn't have anybody worth trying, and assumed McGeady wasn't up to too many minutes yet. Naismith did nothing in his time on the field, and if Vellios is not getting a look in then you'd have to say it's because the boss thinks he is rubbish. I would assume on even Naismith now that Martinez can see he is not improving his game despite getting some chances, that first touch is not getting any better. Naismith will be on the way out when he can do it.

For me also there was some changing around, Ossie and Kev seemed to swap between the middle and the left a few times. Oviedo even popped up in the hole a couple times. Oviedo on the right was an odd one for me though.

I wouldn't judge him as harsh as 5/10 on that basically.

It's not like him to not make subs when they are needed. One can only assume that injuries have taken such a toll there wasn't anyone on the bench who he thought could make an impact.

I do remember him doing the same against Fulham in the cup too. Anyway as said, in general he's been good with his subs throughout the season. We are also pretty much down to the bare bones. Makes you wonder with Naismith tho, if he's not even deemed good enough to play 20-30 mins off the bench when were playing awfull with other backup players on the field, then why is he not moving him on or replacing him.

Doing a fantastic job.He is going to be one of the best managers in world football. Does not hide behind an injury crisis like fat sam and blame injuries on our results.

Hopefully by this time next week we'll be sitting with 3 new faces (including McGeady) to help give some real options off the bench.
Last night Hibbo was sitting on the bench as 3rd choice RB, and Heitinga was never going to be brought on to chase the game.
We must just show patience- the boys will be upset with the performance and the result. Let them use it to beat the sh!te.

Good to see people not throwing dummies our of prams after one iffy game (which still wasn't lost).

Think I'm just more annoyed than anything mate. It was a great chance.

Days like this were going to happen. And we've been spoiled so far that we've not had many.

But hey. Didnt lose as you say.

Havn't noticed the dummies getting thrown out of the pram if i'm being honest, see a lot of criticism over a bad performance and doubts cast against the depth of the squad now with a few injuries taking its toll, and some criticism of tictacs and subs etc - usually with the caveat of the injuries and past good choices in the same posts

What i see from last night is the following;

1. West brom had new manager and he probably spent the past 2 weeks learning how to defend against us. After all, wanting to win his first game and all would take special attention.

2. Our injuries. If our bench compiled last night of Barkley, Piennar, Gibson, Kone, Traore (aparently), Match fit Mcgeady would the result of the game be different? I would argue it would have been.

3. We didn't lose! The most frightening thing in playing a team is one that doesn't seem to get beat no matter how badly they play. Therefore we still got another point and our loss count has not increased one bit.

4. We can only improve. I said in the summer i was happy for Roberto to make mistakes this season as long as he learned from them and used them lessons to improve the team. Whether or not he made mistakes last night is down to opinion, but at least he can learn from it.

5. Future in our hands. We play The kopite and Spurs in the coming weeks, we win both of them and who gives a damn about drawing away last night? Before you play your best you play your worst, and we will be up for those games.

So the knee jerk reaction on twitter and the like are completely unfounded in my opinion, honestly i thought it would be a hard game given all the circumstances. So a point is a fair result and we can go and put space between us and our rivals now for 4th in the coming weeks.

Anyone angry and doubting this manager after a 1-1 draw away from home needs to be sectioned. They truly are a serious concern for themselves and their families.

i'd rather take the positives mate, overall kept pace with the 4th place team, and maybe the performance highlighted if it was needed to boberto that we need a extra body or two in who can play centre mid or the barkley role

If it does maybe make him go out and get a couple of good quality players in then a supposed 2 points drop could be worth it by the end of the year in what we gain
