Roberto Martinez discussion

Disappointed with the time he chose to make the substitutions last night. Every man and his dog knew West Brom were going to equalise.

i'd rather take the positives mate, overall kept pace with the 4th place team, and maybe the performance highlighted if it was needed to boberto that we need a extra body or two in who can play centre mid or the barkley role

If it does maybe make him go out and get a couple of good quality players in then a supposed 2 points drop could be worth it by the end of the year in what we gain

Yes mate, we are desperate for cover for Barkley. We're very unfortunate having both Gibson and Barkley out together. I just hope the usual 'realism' doesn't kick in and the club start wondering whether it's worth spending out on another cm...I think, unfortunately, I already know the answer to that.

TBH, for the goal I thought McCarthy took that roll out from Howard and should never have lost it as he moved forward. We were architects of our own downfall there.

I agree, Martinez should have acted swifter getting Osman off and McGeady on and giving West Brom something to thiink about.

Get Barkley, Peinaar and Gerard back in and the zing will come back ASAP.

Good first half but a strange second half performance.

I think it shows how far we have come under Martinez when we go away from home and expect to pass everyone to death and win comfortably.

I am starting to love James McCarthy, him with Barkley and Barry is ideal for me, so the sooner the kid is back the better. Don't think we need anybody else to come in to play in those positions personally. Some back-up would be nice though when one of them is injured.

Mirallas is as good as he is infuriating at times and Lukaku needs some competition which hopefully Traore will provide.

Nailed it right there.

a left back playing right mid and a washed up osman, with naismith and a recently signed player without match practice

if some players arent 'on it' martinez doesnt have options if players are injured, maybe we can rectify it this window(!?)

martinez is not a wizard as yet, still annoying not to win tho..

He's human, he made a mistake. He'll learn from it. He's still a young manager and still learning, despite how class he is.

Osman should have been brought off, yes. Maybe he should not have started. But i think martinez was weary of bringing mcgeady on too early incase he got injured or wasnt fit enough for longer.

Correct. No-one mentions this though because they are up his a*se. Vs Liverpool we went 3-2 up and he brought stones on for pienaar. No-one said anything then. IF that was Moyes he would have got bollocked mate. NOT hating on RM though.

Overhyped by our fans. He isn't that special mate. People on here think we could get 20m for him is a bit funny. I can only remember him doing that boss run vs Stoke, vs liverpool before he got snapped, Spurs goal away. Good player but people think hes Ronaldo or someone

mirallas was only 6 mill, for that hes pretty special

maybe mcgeady was only read for 10/15 minutes...only other option was naismith, osman was prob kept on as he still has a chance of creating something

First time I've been disappointed with Bobby. For a lot of reasons.

I'll admit, we had injuries but that doesn't excuse all of the following:

Not killing the game off
Not changing our approach when we were dire in the second half
Not bringing on subs until forced to, or it was too late
Letting Osman stay on the pitch for 89 minutes
Resorting to hoofball

All of that made it seem like a 'worst of Moyes' style game. Again, we had injuries and their pitch was gash and they were obviously up for it (perhaps getting away with too many overtly physical tackles) but Jesus, that was our chance.

We are currently Pld 22 W11 D9 L2 Pts 42

At the same stage in 1986/1987, the last time we won the league: Pld 22 W12 D5 L5 Pts 41.

The last time we had only lost 2 games after 22 games played during a league season was 1974/1975, when we lost our 2nd game of the season in our 22nd league game of that season, a 2-3 defeat at home to Carlisle.

Martinez is doing an absolutely brilliant job within the context of Everton history and also within the context of the current football landscape and financial picture featuring other clubs.

I'll tell you what i think: I reckon Martinez let Mel get inside his head for this game. He mentioned the transition in mentality he expected at West Brom with Mel's arrival. He was given the runaround by Betis in pre-season by his team when we were first finding our feet with the new system, and I think we played differently last night because of that.

Just a thought.
