Roberto Martinez discussion

This is the way villa and most team will play against us. If we struggle to find ways to break down a flat and high defensive setup. Then it's something very worrying.
Yes it's a deserved win. But hardly an easy win.

yes, I agree.. we are in for more games where teams "park the bus" against us. But I fancy our chances as players return from injury. Creative, attacking players like Deulofeu, Lukaku, and Traore will only help us in breaking teams down. We have the quality in our ranks to play this possession based footy.

Never said it was easy. But imagine if Aidey's shot was a few inches the right 5 minutes in. We might have won 3-0 since they wouldn't have been able to park the bus.

We were a bit sluggish in the 1H, but if you want to win things you have to fight through and get a result. Look at Man U. Moyes goes out there every week like he did with us and talk about how well they played and lost. Guess what? You have to get results.

Imagine Mirallas free kick few inches to the left.

What I'm trying to say is, a high defensive flat back four is highly vulnerable to exploit but we didn't do enough or never attempt to exploit it fully. If we had done that more often, things will be so much more comfortable.

Just please play Rom and Treebeard together when we're able...I want to see the look on the face of defenders.

two up front in games like these, sacrificing barry wouldn't be the worst idea imo. sometimes barry's not needed, especially not when he's barely going to have to make a tackle and win the ball back, an extra attacking player in his place wouldn't go amiss.

Always like Martinez at Wigan. Said before he is intelligent. Good win today and good subs. Once we get Coleman, traore, Barkley and deulofeu fit we'll be fine. Plus lukaku to come back.

might have something to do with us not having any fit strikers.

As has been mentioned though, they were very aggressive. It's not like they were standing there waiting for us to flick it past them.

No Delefeou, Barkely not 100%, no target man we can fire it to, bypassing that level, and then running on. Personnel matters.

Chelsea couldn't do it against West Ham during the week. When a team parks the bus like they did it's always going to be difficult. Martinez and the team deserve credit for their 2nd half performance for breaking them down.

West ham played differently. They sit deep with a back 6.

Villa sit high up with a back four. Yes they did park the bus but it's a small bus. It's not that difficult. We break them down by playing little one two to catch their flat four. We hardly do that all game. We rely too much on the flank today and is so Moyes like.

First half I counted 4 times when Barkley turned into traffic of six Villa players on the edge of their own box.

I think they were outrageously stifling today for a PL team

Not sure what game you watched but I don't think it was today's. Villa played very deep, with a deep holding midfield, even the commentators (one of them Barry Horne) kept commenting on how organised they were. The team deserves massive credit for breaking that down cos Villa are an excellent side on the road as they showed against L'pool, they beat Arsenal earlier in the season at the Emirates, also

They didn't play as deep as sunderland at goodison. The amount of offside we had is higher than normal today. Some offside location is as high up as middle of their half. When pieenar guide the ball to Naismith, their back four is at the edge of the penalty box. It's hardly deep.

Last night Martinez featured as the guest pundit on ITV (I think) pre the MCFC CFC game, broadcast here.

He was absolutely brilliant.
Andy Townsend asked some sharp questions about the Liverpool game and the league in general and Martinez was articulate, charming and informative in response. His tactical analysis was spot on and ENTIRELY on the money. He predicted Chelsea would win, explained why, and was entirely correct. He opened up about his philosophy and was very interesting explaining the difference between a reactive manager and one who sticks to a style regardless of personnel (such as himself or Pelegrini)

You could see why for a player it would be exciting being managed by him. He has an ability to explain concepts so simply.
And futhermore it was a great advert for him and for Everton. Townsend and tyldesley were literally foaming and going wild for him by the end of the show, brown nosing him to come back again. It can only help the media's approach towards how they cover Everton.

Can't get my head around people not liking the guy.

I think its good the way he has made Everton a futsal team for the young kids so they can practise 1 on 1.
