Roberto Martinez discussion

Bullish interview from Martinez on MOTD earlier. It's good to see that he genuinely thinks we can grab 4th this year.

I just hope the players can buy into that optimism. We're absolutely desperate for Traore to come in and do the business to give everyone a lift.

13 games to go is 1/3 of the season!! A LONG way to go and recover points 'lost'. But somehow, somewhere, we HAVE to find a cutting edge. We seem so clueless in the attacking third.

Anyway, bring on Palace (who will park the bus and try to score off dead ball situations)

Anyone hear that clown Guillem Balague on Talk SPort last night? going on about Martinez will one day be at Old Trafford, unreal. For years the media went on about how Moyes would be the next Man U manager and 6 months in and they have seen how useless he is and already we hear Martinez briefly talked about like that. What is it with the media always wanting people to leave Everton for "bigger" things

ITV target Martinez to boost World Cup panel and join Hoddle in Brazil
  • ITV keen to sign Everton boss as World Cup pundit
Everton manager Roberto Martinez is being targeted to join Glenn Hoddle on ITV’s World Cup team, with the battle of the pundits set to be as competitive as the action on the pitch.

Martinez, who was one of the network’s Champions League analysts this week, will join their line-up in Brazil provided an agreement can be reached with ESPN to share his services.

ITV will have a strong managerial presence if Martinez is added to a cast that includes Roy Keane and Hoddle, along with former players Lee Dixon and Patrick Vieira.

So ITV and ESPN fighting over who can 'wear the Martinez mask' for the World Cup...

We will get quicker...once the style is completely embedded and we have all eleven on the pitch on the same wavelength. Watching Bayern last night, and Barca on Tuesday, they both play a passing/possession game but play it fast when they want to play it fast. City can do it sometimes, but aren't style wise the finished article yet. We are folowing the same path but have further to go. Have patience...we will gradually develop and will be getting faster and more confident all the time, then we will really kick into gear.

Is it me, or is it frustrating to other blues also that we dont seem to be putting many crosses in anymore?

Especially given we have one of the best left-backs with a wand of a left peg. So many times we get to a good position and then just play it back. I know Roberto leans towards a passing and a patient game, but there's surely got to be a balance and to fully utilise what your best assets are?

Yes and no mate.

Last few weeks we haven't had a bloody striker to cross the ball to!

I think I get more annoyed about us not shooting much.

I like the new style but I don't think we are that much better than previous in terms of overall threat.
We've got less attacking options with two defensive midfielders and a nulified Baines threat, give the opposition more time to get from attack to defense, and seem defensively more reliant on luck for clean sheets.

That being said we are better to watch and dominate possession like never before, and the freedom to shoot long or charge into the area has earnt us a lot of points this season, in fact its probably our main source of goals.. i.e solo runs or long shots, and formationa dn passine wise, we seem to be heading towards something very good, but I don't think we are much superior to last season...yet.. and I suspect we will finish in a very Moyes'esque league position.

I do get annoyed that Barry McCarthy axis of awesome is never broken up when we are losing.

A minor gripe but a gripe none the less.

i'd like to see a mccarthy/barkley or pienaar axis when we're chasing a game/a game is won - barry's no spring chicken, don't need to be playing him every single minute of every game.

GD could be key if united get their act together or if spurs keep scoring like they do.
