Roberto Martinez discussion

Martinez is doingl the right things but we need Bill to piss or get off the pot it's no good trying to play football with less players than everyone else.

The peripheral stuff about the club off field is marvelous but Anfield showed the painful truth on it ie if the first 11 gets disrupted we are stuffed.

Bill has to move on or get money this summer there's up to 6 players needed and not utility players decent comfortable on the ball players athletic and strong enough to cope.

This will go tits up in the blink of an eye if we don't progress people's hopes have been raised by the first half of the season and Martinez clearly isn't a man to milk the club like the previous charlatan his stock is already through the roof someone with genuine money will come and off he'll go.

Bill needs to realise it has to happen this summer.

If we work on the premise that Barry will sign + 2 youth players will come through then this would cancel out the 3 loans we would lose.

So then simply add the 4 loan slots to what we have now and numbers-wise thats 4 extra players to booat the squad before making a single signing.

7th and a good cup run was what most of us were expecting. The nice football has been a bonus. If we finish better than 7th and/or at least reach the FA Cup final than we should all be quietly optimistic for the new season. Just hoping BK really does give him a few bob.

He won't though will he? Moyes got absolutely nothing in the way of net spend to build a squad, the exact same thing is going to happen this time around.

And I bet Martinez does a fantastic job as well, in the same way Moyes did, but there'll be a section of our supporters who expect more from the team.

Money or no money if Martinez manages to get a goal scoring striker in, we will soon get top 4 AT LEAST. He's an absolute gem of a manager. Seriously, if we just had someone who could finish their dinner v Chelsea we definitely would have won that game yesterday. A draw would've been a harsh result tbh! We are so close to being a proper top side it's scary. I also think we'll win the FA Cup. Arsenal Shmarsenal

What do people think of Martinez' comments about the ref in his post match interview? It's been picked up by a lot of the press that he said Chelsea used 'every trick in the book' and it's being discussed on match of the day extra now.

When was the last time our manager had high profile press coverage of an official? Could this work in our favour or is it an unnecessary rant?

Name the last 20 goal a season striker who went for under £10m. I think we're in exactly the same place that we've been for a while, yes there's more consistency to the way we control games but we're no closer to breaking that top 4.

Personally I don't like this stuff but since Ferguson it's seen as "clever", they all do it Wenger, Mourinho even Peligrini had a go. Cheapens the sport imo.

We are very very close to something special here now, I can feel it.

I am of the same opinion mate. This year really has been a transitional one and whilst it's gone a wee bit flat post Christmas, I harbour optimistic thoughts for the run home and Cup...but more importantly (now that 4th is realistically gone), for next season. RM will well and truly 'have his feet under the desk' by then.

I'm wearing my mask as a cap at the moment. I think we're going in the right direction but, there are weaknesses to his game that he isn't willing to change. We're not shooting enough, this was a problem with his Wigan team as well, we managed two shots on target against Chelsea (compared to their 8) we may have more possession but we're not doing much with. It wasn't that long ago we were laughing at them over the other side of the park because at least they "won the passing".

It was another disappointing January, but that is more likely to be Bill's fault. Having said that I think we can question some of Martinez's signings. It might be a little harsh to criticise Martinez for players' getting injured but we had a go at 'dithering Dave' for taking too much time over bringing in players but Alcaraz, Traore and Kone have all spent more time injured than they have fit whilst at Everton, it could just be bad luck but three seems like a high number of injuries for new signings.

Also getting his tactics completely wrong against Liverpool, that was unbearable.

Still we're in a better position that we expected to be in at this point in the season.

Its very harsh, but there was a whole thread dedicated to doing so for his predecessor, pointing out how Martinez is a phsio so we'll hardly get any injuries as well.
Didn't buy into it personally and still don't but I think its safe to blame the op of that thread because we've been jinxed with injuries ever since ffs.

Martinez does an awful lot of the things Moyes got slated for, (not a problem for me as I felt most were reasonable things that a good manager would do anyway), but I would say his main changes have been positivity and short passing in our half. If that yeilds roughly the same results, I am all for it. So far I would say its another -same old - kind of season but with more passes and more optimism.
People painting it out to be an epic acheivement are wrong, people saying its a poor season are wrong, its more of the same in terms of league, but lets see how we do cup wise though, it could still be a great season.

Watched the game for a second time, and tactically Martinez had it all over Mourinho. They were completely shut down in the final third, and while we didn't create much we still had the better chances. Just needed Mirallas to actually hit the ball right.
