They are defenders even if they do bomb forwards.. Their primary role and starting position on the field is at the back adopting a defensive stance. To call Baines and Coleman defensive players is an insult to football.

They play more as wing backs than traditional full backs, they are basically midfielders. They are defenders even if they do bomb forwards.. Their primary role and starting position on the field is at the back adopting a defensive stance.
He's a defender that goes forward, don't quite see your point? You saying they don't defend or start in the attacking position of a midfielder?

The postive side to having 7 defense minded players on the field.

Hes a wingback.
Its not 1985 anymore.
I would say they think about defense first and would only go when they are covered, whereas a midfielder or attacking player wouldn't do this, they will constantly be concerned about the gap behind them and are therefore defensive minded because of the importance of the hole they vacate.the point is Coleman and Baines are, in fact, offensive minded players who happen to be defenders. Not "defensive minded" as you erroneously grouped them above.
I really hope Martinez strikes lucky in the transfer market soon.
Getting Arteta and Pienaar for a combined £4m was massive for Moyes, and I think something similar needs to happen if Martinez is to make a stronger push for the Champions League next season. He certainly deserves it.
