Martinez up for award

Recognition for Everton's excellent September, as Roberto Martinez picks up a manager of the month nomination.

The Blues boss will be up against Saturday's opponent Louis Van Gaal, as well as West Ham's Slaven Bilic (the former Everton defender - link alert), and Mauricio Pochettino of Spurs.

Everton beat Chelsea and West Brom in September, and drew away with Swansea.

The question is, if we come 8th or 9th, and don't win anything, where does that leave us? I hope this season will be the polar opposite of last season and we glide into fourth and win a trophy. If we don't though all we're really doing is what Moyes did but with better players.

Or it will be another season on in a path to something better than what came before?

Why the hurry?

I prefer giving him time, there are lots of positives to suggest we are in good hands when it comes to forward planning.

While there are some obvious differences in revenue and spending power between the clubs, the managers have more in common than might be imagined. Martínez tried to set up a loan move for Anthony Martial, then at Monaco, in January last year, but was turned down and Everton ended up with Lacina Traoré instead.

Martinez has an eagle eye for these young top talents. No doubt about it. Imagine if he'd followed the same path as Deulofeu and joined us permanently? Shame for us was that Monaco were already playing him. If he was warming the bench at Barca or Madrid we might have snatched him.

Interesting that today Yarmolenko signed a 5 year extension with Dynamo Kiev and stated in his interview afterwards it was about enabling Kiev to get the fee for him as he hopes they will allow him to leave in the winter now. sounds very like a deal between the two has been struck allowing him to move, interestingly that bloke was with him at his signing the new deal who put his pic on facebook at Goodison the other day as well so 100% his agent

Above all, he has Martínez. Everton’s manager watched Deulofeu from 16 and in his own words “pestered” Barcelona to borrow him in 2013. When the opportunity came to sign permanently, neither man hesitated. There were other options, bigger offers, but Deulofeu wanted to go to Goodison. And although the winger asked for more playing opportunities in September, eliciting a renewed request for patience, the enthusiasm is clear. “Roberto’s always had faith in me. I have to work hard, I know that, but I’m very happy to be back. I was convinced things would go well with him.”
...
There’s a sense of something building. When the idea is put to Deulofeu, his response is surprisingly emphatic. “I’m convinced,” he says. “We’re young, growing together. Players like John Stones, Lukaku, Barkley, McCarthy – good players, competitive players, young players backed by experience with Phil Jagielka, Gareth Barry, Leighton Baines, Tim Howard. Europe is the objective, for now.” And then? “Roberto doesn’t talk to me about [the future] but he doesn’t need to because I see it.”
