Roberto Martinez discussion

Are people really going to use this as a stick to beat the manager?

Surely on some days like today, certain things matter more than the result.

As for excuses and the like, to say the players wouldn't have been affected is a whole load of bollocks.
Blues had their hearts torn out today, and they've met and known the man so would be affected on some kind of level.

We lost 3-0 against a side that will be right up there end of season. It's unrealistic to expect to win every game. Bad performance but sometimes you have to just accept that our hearts and minds weren't in it today.

Because in the main we are having a go. We are trying to take control of football games.
We aren't there yet, but God I prefer it under Martinez than under "you throw the first punch" Moyes.

Don't you think though that sometimes tactically he's a bit like Moyes as in putting square pegs in round holes even when he has options. Bobby has the kind of attacking options that Moyes could only froth at the mouth over yet there they are getting splinters on there arse.

We seem so pedestrian at times, in fact I would say there's only been 2 complete games where we've been aggressive. When we are aggressive we are a match for anyone. The first 15 minutes 2nd half we absolutely dominated Utd and could and should have had a goal or 2 to show for that dominance. The 3rd just killed us off unfortunately.

I see great football in patches, but it tends to come in 10 minute spells every now and then.

Careful Damo...

Young players need confidence mate, if they get beat it knocks it out of them until it all comes right again.

The point is all our important attacking players are young and are inconsistent at times, as like today so are our backup defenders.

In short we're a work in progress with no quick route to the top.

Absolute mate, I was just as baffled as anyone with his team selection today as anyone.

But I just think we are heading in the right direction. I like seeing our Everton try to make something happen rather than always being reactive.

Totally agree mate, the youngsters are doing great, it's the more experienced players who don't seem up to it sometimes! I think Bobby misses a trick or two tbh, I'm not his biggest fan but today isn't a day where I'm going to personally slate the fella. He understands Everton football club, just sometimes I wish he would understand his own tactics ;)

I think you speak for a lot of us there mate. What Martinez says and what he puts out on the field are two totally different things.
Typical schizophrenic Everton today...looking at about 7th place I feel this season

I would say that's a fair shout mate, though I've just got a gut feeling that 3rd and 4th are there for the taking if we could get it right on the pitch.

Take away today's game like but we need to sort our home form out sharpish because it's accumulating wins at home and picking up points away that would get us up there. We've got no chance with this slumber we find ourselves in regarding results at home.

Macca I can appreciate yourself and others questioning him, it's only fair and right isn't it. The thing I'd say is we've been great, in fact [Poor language removed] brilliant at times under Martinez, and I just think it's easily worth being patient with him and the team will he adds to the like of Barkley, Stones, Galloway, Deloufue, Lukaku...

There's great signs here and we'll have ups and downs but if he can add to this core group we're really good for the future.

I agree with you mate. We've had a tough run to begin the season and done admirable but I've seen nothing to suggest we will be consistent enough to sneak in that top four, especially with the competition getting stronger.

Still we have a young team that should only get better, if we keep hold of them like, and there's no shame in Van Gaal outwitting you which happened today.

Hope we respond to it is more important. Not that Arsenal will be easy like.

Totally agree Dougie. I guess this is the conundrum that is Martinez: he does a hell of a lot of good things for EFC, and then puts out a team on to the pitch that has us all going "WTF?"

I don't think the Manager believes we are top 4 material. If he bottles it time and time again with his negative team selections, we can't expect the players to believe it.

We need a couple more Summer transfer windows to bring in replacements to the dross he continues to play ahead of the superior talent sitting on the bench.

Go out and try to win at home against anyone. Being all negative not to lose, and then losing 3/0 is laughable at best....

And that's the conundrum isn't it mate, can we hold onto these players long enough to reap the benefits.

Still early in the season mate, I'm smelling canary blood at the very least and getting into the next round of the League cup so regardless of next Saturday I'm looking forward to that.

yup. every team gets bummed at some point. as long as you learn from it and fix things going forward it's alright. get something from the arsenal game and we have a great run of all winnable fixtures coming up. its 38 game season and have to win games vs teams outside the top 4 as well. We beat UTD 3-0 last year and finished in a terrible position.
Funnily I went through my post before posting removing the word bummed for "done" haha.

Fair comment DD and yep there's definitely been moments where we've played some quality football. I want him to succeed mate I really do, roll on Saturday and see if we can get a bonus point or 3 against the arse
