Roberto Martinez discussion

Reckon it's also worth considering an awful lot of our more experienced players our inured or just back from long term problems before getting over critical as well mate.

Like I've said today was poor but how many times (even this season) have people complained about the tea and it's bitten them in the arse quick smart?

This teams still very much a work in progress as far as I can see and the ups have so far outweighed the downs in my opinion.
I like Assam, should have it at half-time.

and yet we can easily defeat Chelsea handicapped in such a way. How odd.

That's like saying Wist Ham are boss as they dispatched Man City at the etihad. Anyone who advocates Naismith and Kone/Lennon playing over Mirallas and Deloufeu massively underestimate how good this current side could be. The everton of 2 years ago but with the added experience of the youngsters but the manager needs to be more brave in his team selections/tactics.

We should be going for the juggler against every side we play at Goodison, especially if we are playing 2 defensive midfielders in the team.

Juggler's done nothing wrong mate.

I was merely pointing out that this was pretty much the same side that has been playing all season. How some people can be surprised with it I've no idea.
Personally I think we've done well with our difficult fixture list and I can see the sense in not fixing something that isn't broke. Today it broke, so Bobby should react and start tinkering.

My own opinion on the manager is that in his first season he had nothing to lose and was fearless in his approach which was a breath of fresh air from the previous manager. Last season was a mixture of issues and I think this season we are back to how we were but with the Roberto being more fearful of "going for it". I fear he is slowly becoming Moyeseque in his approach and is going for the draw in the big games rather than taking it to the opposition. Even against Chelsea ironically we set out with 3 defensive mids it took an injury to besic for Naismith to come on and subsequently net the hattrick, the team that started was screaming 0-0 with the hope of nicking a winner on the break.

Really hope he changes his approach but I can't see it, really need to get the arsenal game out the way and hope he starts to use our wide players more when we come up against the lesser sides who will he happy to sit back and play on the counter.

I agree with you mate. We've had a tough run to begin the season and done admirable but I've seen nothing to suggest we will be consistent enough to sneak in that top four, especially with the competition getting stronger.

Still we have a young team that should only get better, if we keep hold of them like, and there's no shame in Van Gaal outwitting you which happened today.

Hope we respond to it is more important. Not that Arsenal will be easy like.

I think it's more a case of Martinez outwitted himself - twice. Once at KO and again at HT. LvG just said 'on a plate eh, I'll have that.' Yoink.

Also Kev must've seriously put somebody's nose out of joint

Bobby just expected Utd to come and try to pin our wing-backs back like every other team we've played against in the last year or so and set his team out to counter that like he's done all season. Instead Utd played very narrow through the middle and overloaded us, and tied our DMs down, this meant they couldn't cover the runs forward by Galloway and Coleman properly thus creating space wide for Utd.

Mad Louis set his team out differently today and it caught us out. Usually its been the other way about with Bobby doing something different, but we've been successful playing like this, with this team, so I can see why he didn't want to risk changing it on a whim.

No doubt Bobby will mix things up a bit more next weekend.

I really like Martinez as a person and want nothing more for him to succeed with Everton coz he's a really nice man but for me he just can't motivate the team consistantly enough, we have all seen how he can get the team to perform when he's got the hump with an opposing team(Chelsea) but why can't he do it consistently, also i just can't understand that nearly 3 years in and our attacking players have no real understanding of eachother and how they play, does anybody know his prefered starting 11

Where did I attack your grammar?

It's equally as crass accusing some on here of sullying Kendall's name because it gets in the way of disliking Martinez.

Read the posts back and take a moment for yourself.

You had a go about me putting 'habe' instead of 'have'. Bit poor that lad.

The amount of excuses for kid table performance is unbelievable. The amount of excuses that weren't valid under Moyes but are under Martinez is also unbelievable.

Can't deal with excuses, if we're crap we're crap, i did hear the same old excuses under Moyes though, people should realise excuses get you knowhere
