morning mate. my view is restricted by own knowledge of course. So based on what I know (ignoring all the hear-say) I am not convinced that even across the continent there is a manager that would come to Everton and do any better than Moyes. The group of players is the group of players as signings will be far and few between in regards to IMPROVING the squad.

So my view is, there may well not be a manager out there who will effectively secure more victories with the squad we have. And I am not convinced we can do much better with whoever comes in.

Just my view like.
It's always difficult to judge it, because we expect a different manager to do better than Moyes working with mostly Moyes squad.

But my earlier reply was more about manager quality looking at his CV more than results in 2013/2014 season. I really believe we would be able to attract very good coaches with a more serious search - for example I have no idea how Marcelo Bielsa would do for us and how he would adapt to Premier League, but if we would make an offer I would be surprised if at least he wouldn't consider it.

The fact that Van Gaal is currently busy with Netherlands NT made me even more disappointed, as he's another top level manager who would be in our range and who - I believe - would do very well for us.

Exactly. That is why we as a club should be setting our sights higher than a relegated manager with premiership experience. Mourinho, benetiz and AVB have adapted very quickly to the 'demands' of the premiership. Give a manager with proven experience of winning things (victor) a chance over a 'safe' option like Martinez!!!

Martinez has won a league title at swansea and an FA Cup with a championship team at the age of just 39!

So Wigan was handed the F.A cup then, they batted us at the F.A cup, Moyes was outclassed by Martinez that day. Moyes had 11 years here, Moyes had a lot more money then Martinez, Fellaini cost us 15 million. Martinez also had to shop in a lower market then us, he couldn't dream of signing the likes of Mirallas and Pienaar for Wigan. Don't forget Martinez had to keep the team in this league while his best players were sold. Martinez doesn't have to build a team for us on coppers, just come in and make some touches, maybe bring in a striker for us. I would take a chance on him rather then the likes of the names being thrown around. Any manager who comes will struggle to be as good as Moyes, but he gone now and we have to look to another manager, if you want another Moyes, then Mackay from Cardiff is your man but still learning the trade. I would rather go another way and get an attacking manager in who wont play hoof ball with Fellaini.

Is right..... Jags..... Class....

You can expect a frenzied and co-ordinated attack on Martinez from a certain section of our fanbase, should he get the job.
However from what I gather Bill has gone away for the weekend whilst he ponders on which of the two candidates he has left on his list is going to get the job.
By Monday afternoon we should all know who it is.

I'm attacking the idea before the reality. As soon as he becomes the Everton manager or is confirmed, I'll be a staunch supporter as always.

Anything else and we're setting ourselves up for failure.

I didn't say it was an easy job he had bu he hasn't really excelled. Winning an FA Cup is lovely and all but look at the teams he had to beat, not exactly the most challenging run was it? The only two teams of note they played were both absolutely garbage on the day.

People go on about Moyes bottling the big games but he managed to get enough points in the other 30 games a season to have us in the top 7 consistently.

Not saying we'll be battling relegation but will he be able to achieve consistent top 7 finishes? We'll wait and see.

we currently have the 6th best team in the league so he should have no excuses for not achieving that, like AF his big game mentality in this years FA Cup really stood out for me. They took the game to us and battered us in the 5 mins we were on he ropes. we never really do that, we score 1 and won't score another for a good half an hour normally. we beat the majority of the teams in this league because we're the better team, any manager worth their salt should be able to get that from us; therefore we needed a manager who could win the really really big ones that will make a difference in a season.

like you said, we'll see. Just turning up actually trying to win the really big games will be step up for me

Vitor got nothing on Ian Holloway

You do realised he absolutely struggled against lower league teams, often having to go to replay. As for battering us and out classing us, that game went down as one of our worst performances of the season. We simply took it for granted and the players thought all they had to do was walk on the field. We almost limped through it as well.

The main argument for Martinez is his Swansea days, which I can live with. He did well there, but everything else is a total stretch.

I'm resigned to it being Martinez, and I'll get behind him. I think someone has been smoking the same stuff Dave Whealans been smoking......:dodgy:

The main problem I have with Martinez is his defensive record, regardless of this season where he lost a few defenders due to injury, he's had the same problem all of the way through the prem. You can't get a top 6 finish by simply slotting lots of goals away, as great as that is in fantasy land it doesn't work in the real world. You can argue he'd have better defenders here, but you can also argue there have been some shocking managers in the prem who've had better defensive records than Martinez with equal, if not players who were worse, than what Martinez has had.
