Thanks, carl. Good link.

Record vs the top 6.

I always find those kind of stats pointless. You get no more points from beating a top 6 team as apposed to beating a bottom 6 team.

I prefer to look at a points total after 38 games.

It's not about points though.

It's about the kind of manager he is, and you can tell that by how he did vs teams much better than him, how he did vs teams about as good as his and how he did vs teams much worse than his.

I know mate - but last season's inability to beat the poorer teams is what cost us (not counting dodgy ref's etc)!

Every team can play the what if game though mate. Wigan can say what if they beat Swansea at home they'd have stayed up. Spurs could say what if they didn't concede those two injury time goals against us at Goodison they could have been in the champions league.

Every single club in the league can point to games where they SHOULD have done better.

It is about points surely?

No.

Martinez would pick up more points at everton than he would at wigan and more points at man u than he would have at either. That's true for any manager.

If it was as simple as manager a got 38 points, therefore he'll get 38 points with another club, then wenger who got nancy relegated would have got arsenal relegated too. And chairmen would have a piss easy job in recruiting.

OTOH, if it was as simple as manager b got 42 points with a poor club he'd get 84 with a rich one then Allardyce would have got the chelsea job and mike walker would have won us the league.

It's not about counting the points, that only matters to wigan fans. it's about looking at how a manager works and seeing if he'd be a good fit in different circumstances.

Which is why looking at how wigan did in big games, or in games vs lower league sides who parked the bus, or big sides who were technically superior and isolating just those results is telling in a way that looking at 38 games isn't. Imo, anyway.

This is true, but Everton had ambitions to compete with the top 4 for most of last season. It's understandable that supporters have an emphasis on the top end of the league.

But we shouldn't have really should we? That's what Moyes has done in his time in charge here, raised expectations considerably way above what we should have been achieving with the finances supplied.

Some people have become blasé about us "winning the 7th place trophy" and are blaming Moyes for not pushing us further which is nonsensical.

It's not. Moyes is amazing in dealing on the market and IMO be created an excellent squad looking at money he had at his disposal. It's his tactics, man management and delivery on pitch which could be slightly better. I don't have a feeling he got 100% out of Everton players. I have no doubt - that despite a few mistakes, but it's impossible to avoid them - he created a best squad it was possible under our financial restrictions.

I disagree 100% I think he got everything out of them. Lets see what the next manager gets out of those same players next season.

It won't be the same position to judge - as the same group of players don't have to be a perfect fit for Moyes replacement.
