Anyone think it will make us more likeable for neutrals? Not that I'm especially arsed.

I mean I think we're generally likeable amongst neutrals anyway but Martinez has the charm that Moyes doesn't. He speaks well and I think a lot of fans seem to like him

Good manager to get, he can now shop at tesco rather than netto now he has a bit more money to spend.
He can attract better players that Wigan couldn't afford (wage wise) and he is coming to a team with a ready made defence. Maybe we can try something different than pass pass sideways, wide, cross.

I'm looking forward to a through ball mate. Just one.

Other than Scots he is the first 'foreigner' to manage us, he has got to be better than Walter Smith, Mike Walker and Colin Harvey so lets give him a chance. TBH we did need a change, Moyes has proven one thing, he wasn't capable of winning a trophy, be that his fault or a shortage of cash it doesn't matter his tenure will always be questioned because of the lack of silver ware.

Martinez wasn't my choice but at the end of the day a huge percentage of supporters was always going to be on a downer no matter what, anyone of the list would have only represented a minority view. Suck it up lads and lets move on for the good of the club, there is sweet sod all any of us can do about it other than to support another club, after 60 years a blue I'm, staying what about you:o

It's not forced positivity, your just talking sh!t mate!. Regardless of who we appoint, we should get behind the club, manager and players!. We could appoint Mike Bassett and id support him and thats the truth cos it's Everton, thats who i support and care about!.

But you talk about Martinez coming in and that basically we'll go from top 5 to bottom 5 and i just dont understand why you'd think that?!. He isnt a bad manager, and are team isnt crap either!. We actually have some very good players and when all fit, will match anyone on any given day.

Are you one of these brain washed fans that believe its all down to Moyesy that were so good, and that without him they wouldnt be as good or perform to the levels we did under Moyesy?!. Are you one of these that really thinks we "punch above our weight", "overachieve" every season?!. Cos i dont, weve done it for too many season now to believe that bollox!.

You dont compete aswell as we do up at the top and finish within the top 6 or 7, season in, season out most years unless your a good side!. And not only that, the spirit and togetherness is legendary at Everton these days, clubs are envious of us for that fact and that wont be lost cos Moyesy as fcuked off!.

Martinez is a positive thinking, attack minded manager who believes in playing the beautiful game and i for one think in time, he will get us to the heights of Moyes and beyond.

This next season will be a transitional period for the team, he'll want to put his methods across and stamp his own ideas on the side, bring his own men in and it will take time for things to click so no, we wont be up where Moyesy got us straight away, but i dont think we'll be bottom half either!.

Give the man a chance, a break and see just what he can bring to the table!. Us that can see beyond Wigan's relegation can see a promising manager there in Martinez!.

You shouldn't just blindly support the club like a lemming

Sometimes if you care about something, you'll speak up when you think something isn't right. I think I care just as much as you do. If you want to suggest I don't because I'm worried that we've paid 2 Million to bring in a man who relegated a team from the Premier League, then bully for you

Top "supporter" you lad, hope you don't get an obstructed view bet your ancestors used to shout "sit down I can't see the lions eating the christians".

I like you, Nigel.

I hope you're right. We will play a nice brand. I have seen nothing to suggest, however, that this will lead to more goals/offensive play. Moyes has given him a boss squad (most importantly, a boss defence) though, something we haven't seen him with yet. It'll be interesting. If we sign some decent players and keep hold of Baines, we can really have a pop at the top 4 next year. My only worry is transfer windows. But here, with Bill at the top, they are of huge importance to our success.

Apart from Johnny Carey.

Laughing at the stuff about Wigan's record under him: like that job wasn't ever the football equivalent of plaiting sawdust that was always going to end in tears eventually...especially when you fight on two fronts to the very death of the season. An almost impossible task to achieve both the cup win and the PL survival...especially with your whole back line in the treatment room.

They probably had the worst XI in the league, Reading perhaps withstanding. It's a miracle he kept them up for so long, people are going on about it as if he should've been hitting the top 10 with a god awful squad.

or we've hired a title winner and an FA Cup winning manager at the tender age of 39. He's won more trophies than moyes. I understand that people think it's a lack of ambition, but there really aren't too many great candidates out there, the other two candidates also have bad points

One of the most dismal features of this manager debate has been Evertonians looking down their noses at replacements for Moyes...as if we just let a highly successful manager slip through our fingers who lived up to the school of science traditions. Well we didn't. And United have made a monumental error in hiring him. Martinez is already ahead of the game in comparison to Moyes, IMO, and he'll do a different and at least as good a job here if/when he signs in and we give him time and support.

Yep, im really excited about the change of mentality he will bring to the team away from home. I dont see why everyone is worried about the defensive side of things when we have great defensive coaches in-house.

In Martinez I trust!

Rather than be persuaded one way or the other as to how Martinez will fare by people on here, I'm more interested how the players will respond. Personally, I think we'll start the season with a stronger squad fully behind the new manager. It's going to be a lively time me thinks.

Greg O'Keeffe ‏@GregOK 1h The appointment has already been well received by key members of Everton's dressing room. #EFC #Martinez
