I seriously hope that I have to put my hand up & say "I was wrong" but, I'm not being filled with confidence at the moment.

well whelan has shot himself in the foot to go along with his dodgy leg.
he announced martinez said he wanted to leave and the reasons why. this was totally uncalled for and unprofessional.
then tonight he announced the fee agreement.

well lets say everton sign some another manager , what happens to martinez ?
what happens if no other club wants to pay his fee ?
he would have to go back to wigan and see out the last year of his contract at a club where the fans know he wanted to leave and as stated "hes not up to the task of taking them back to the prem"
or will dave have to sack him to get a new manager in ?
dave's been a very very very silly old man .

So Stubbs it is then?

Fortunate to remember 1970 (just about), 1985 and 1987 so, having put up with our demise between 1987 and 2002 (with the notable exception of Royle's 18 months) I have to say I don't ask for a lot. I've been happy enough to see Everton in the top 8 for all but 2 of the past 11 seasons and much better football than the turgid sh1te that Smith served up in pursuit of survival in the PL ffs. Imagine if you will comparing 2002-13 with 1991-2002 and it becomes relatively easy to accept that we've had some great times in our history but not many years of consistent success - only the Catterick years really were consistently good (at least up to 1970 that is). Naturally I'm going to sympathise with those who haven't seen any success in terms of trophies but, let's be honest, we'd still be behind the side trophies or no trophies and let's compare our current situation with the likes of Newcastle (44 years and counting) and the likes of West Ham.

So, with that in mind, trophies are wonderful but so, to a smaller extent, is the warmth that comes from being competitive and being comfortably better than most. You can berate me if you like but imagine how it now feels to be a Leeds (spits out the word) fan or a Forest fan or, even worse, a Portsmouth fan these days. So, blessed are those who do not expect, for they shall not be disappointed you might come back to me with. I expect, want, demand, good football. I won't decent top 8 finishes AS A BARE MINIMUM so we can build on that. Whoever gets the gig - I expect it will be Martinez, will get my full support and I'm keen to hear where he thinks he can take us forward - none of this "fighting above our station" stuff will be a good start frankly. Maybe the guts to take on the RS in their own back yard will be a big start...

Best post I've seen here in a long long time. Well thought out and my sentiments exactly (except I don't have the history you do yet).

You have to hope and expect that at 39 year old manager has scope to improve, especially one as reputedly obsessed with his job as Martinez. Moyes improved year on year, developing the attacking style from a defensive base. Martinez can surely do the reverse.

I feel like the clamour for Pereira and Rangnick also is more based on the idea of them than the reality. People 95% of Evertonians hadn't heard of 2 months ago were suddenly overwhelming favourites amongst the majority, based on very little information.

I'm delighted personally, in an ideal world he might right some of the core wrongs at the heart of the Moyes team regarding flair and adventure at key moments, whilst keeping the core of solidity. Or he might spectacularly fail. Either way it's going to be new and exciting.
